Stumbled into 2007 and found a familiar name
« on: November 03, 2014, 09:41:05 PM »
I was doing some computer searching today and came upon a post made by a familiar name. Suffice it to say, it seems as if this individual sometimes becomes a “fan” of certain words of phrases.

Believe you me, I think if you’ll read this thread you’ll see what I mean.

Thinking of getting an apple
and here are some questions

1.- What word processor? Vista is a dog, but Word 07 is extremely capable for even some light DTP. In fact, the last book I put out was laid out in Word 7

2.- I've been looking at the I-works suite, and its word processor is light and probably good enough for taking notes, and even writing the great American novel, but not adecuate for a power user. What word processor would you guys recommend? Believe you me, I am a power user.

3.- As a writer I use creative suites that allow me to keep track of all aspects of a novel. I know scriverner is out there, what are the others and what are your reviews?

4.- How well do things like oh Scribus behave in the Apple Environment?

5.- I also write Role Playing Games. Anything equivalent to Profantasy CC 3 or NBOS Fractal Mapper? (That is mapping software for fantasy games)

6.- Anybody used cross over office? And how good is it?

I think I have plenty of questions.

Oh and why am I even looking at this? If you want I can tell you all the joys of installing programs on Vista... when I read the issues of installation (for former windows users), believe you me, vista users will be more familiar with these "installation glitches," except in Apple they are by design, and not by accident.

Then there is the below exchange in another thread.

Oh and one more thing
indexes may not be common, but are used

But search and replace? It is far more common than you think... writers of all stripes use it.

This is a tool... like anything else in your quiver

The final test for any tool is... does it do what I need it to do?

If it does... fine.

If it does not... there are alternatives

But remember, these ARE TOOLS... nothing to worship at, and like ALL tools they have faults to them.

ALL TOOLS... no TOOL is perfect

But I am amazed whenever anybody points to a problem how people come out of the woodwork with the incredible need to defend a TOOL.

Hell, if producing long complex documents was not part of what I did every day... (with indexes) this might serve all my needs... alas I need it do to a little more... and asking for index implementation is not obscure or rare

And hells bells, asking for a robust search and replace is not asking for the moon...

Damn...

It never ceases to amaze me...

I guess it is human nature.

Oh and I will stand by what I said... if you need to produce complex documents THIS IS NOT the program to do it, especially if you need to have INDEXES.

have a good day.

I guess everyone is offended by you insisting the documents we're all creating somehow aren't complex or professional because they don't have indexes. That and your posts are riddled with bad grammar, which is normally overlooked but is frustratingly ironic given the context of this discussion.

If thats the case, my professors aren't as strict on APA as they say they are!   Two years and nobody has ever said anything?

I do think sans-serif looks better, though.

Until this moment I did not realize there were tool quivers, I had thought quivers were for arrows, and toolboxes were for tools.  You can learn a lot from a Nadin.

Of course she is.  The proof is that she gets a bill from the power company every month (which the retired swabbie pays). :naughty: :-)
