I’m a cop.

A few weeks ago, two of my beat partners and I were called to an apartment in a fairly nice complex to help a mother and father with their 16-year-old son.

The son had no criminal history, and by all accounts was a decent kid. But he was having some problems at home — breaking things and making threats with a knife — and the parents needed our help.

When we finally located the son, who is of mixed ethnicity (dad is white, mom is Hispanic), he instantly began cussing and yelling at us. He took a fighting stance and said he was not going to do anything we told him.

Luckily, we were able to calm him and get him into handcuffs without any blows being thrown.

Wait until you see the reason.

To all the LEO's out there and all here on CC you have my utmost respect. I don't know how you all do it on a daily basis now.

I had considered a career  in law enforcement, but my tour in Ramadi in 2006 changed my mind on that, and that was with a Bradley Fighting Vehicle and a full squad in the back.

The reporting by the media and  the actions of the race-baiters is making it very hard to see a pleasant outcome to this. The media has to know their actions have inflamed passions even more then they should be.

 If I were the city of Ferguson, I'd be suing the media for their irresponsible reporting causing the damage to my city. The fact that they don't realize they have caused all of that damage shows the grossest kind of negligence.

The Race Card, The Facts And The Shooting Of The 18 Year Old Black Male In St. Louis

It has happened yet again in St. Louis, MO.  No, I’m not talking about the white police officer shooting a young black man; I’m talking about the completely irresponsible reporting by the media and others that is leading to more civil unrest, racial tension, hatred and potentially more rioting.

What we know about the event, from what has been released by the police, is that an officer was working an off-duty job at a location where he observed three black males who ran when he tried to contact them.  One of them was holding his pants as he ran, indicating to the officer (rightfully so), that the suspect had something in his pants.  The officer chased that suspect, caught him and struggled with him.  The suspect broke free, started to run again, turned and fired three shots at the officer who returned fire killing the suspect.  The suspect’s gun was recovered at the scene.  The dead suspect was a black male, 18 years old, who according to the police spokesman was no stranger to law enforcement, but due to privacy concerns, he could not say more about the dead guy’s criminal history.

Before much of anything was known publicly about the incident (about 45 minutes after the shooting), St. Louis’ own local version of Al Shapton, one Antonio French, an elected city official who came to national attention during the Ferguson riots, piped up with this completely irresponsible tweet:



As an elected public official, his first duty should be to the safety and security, to the wellbeing of the city and its residents.  Can someone please explain to me how a statement like his can be taken as anything other than a statement intended to fire people up?  Taken completely out of context, I suppose the argument could be made that his tweet was directed at the criminal actions of the young man, and that those need to stop.  However, when put in context, with all of the other statements he has made in the past, about the racist cops unjustly killing innocent black youth, it puts an entirely different spin on his tweet.

The Media

Reports by several news sources continue to list the suspect as a “teen” and as the “victim”.  While technically correct, at 18 years old one is still a teen, but they are also deemed legally an adult.  Calling him a teen is done intentionally to make the reader/viewer conjure images of someone younger.  Worse than that though, calling him a “victim” immediately tells the reader/viewer he was innocent.  Victims are innocent, that is why they are called a “victim”.  The English language has many words that can be used to refer to the person who was shot, but not all of them put the blame on the shooter like the word “victim” does.

Ray, my daughter has stated a desire to be a police officer.  There's no way I want her to do that.  She'll be 7 at the end of the week, so hopefully she'll figure out something else first (such as teaching).

The sad thing is, someone has to do the job. Its thankless, hard work that 99% of the cops do day in and day out. And most people will never hear anything about all the good they do.

BSS, good luck with your daughter. Convincing her there are other careers that may be better for her is always challenging for a parent. Or so I've been told.

If anarchy reigns supreme (the deputy talks as if that's headed our way if the shitheads continue to broadcast half-baked, inaccurate, and just plain wrong stories in their zeal to be No. #1), The Heiress isn't safe no matter what she does professionally, BSS.

We hear all too often about a rogue cop or a cop that just breaks down and loses it, going nuts and breaking the balls of some punk that's been taunting him (the cop) for several hours prior to the cop losing it. We don't see the verbal abuse and even physical abuse that the police take while doing their jobs -- the cell phone cameras roll when the cop reacts to that blizzard of abuse and that's what gets reported.

My hat's off to the LEOs. It's true -- their job is thankless and never-ending. They witness the absolute worse that humanity has to offer and they're somehow supposed to ride above it all. Poor bastards are human and they have frailties too, but the shitsticks that taunt, attack, and otherwise persecute the cops are rarely held accountable for their actions.

When the writer mentions Antonio French, saying that an elected official should be more responsible, he obviously hasn't read much or heard about some of the elected officials in the City of StL. I remember the time when one of the minority elected officials, a council woman, decided to make a scene and protest. She refused to leave to even go to the restroom, so she peed in a bucket in the middle of the room. I guess some of her cohorts stood around her to try to shield her.

Need I say more?

A friend in St Louis told me how the crowd that was there last weekend to protest was a group of various anarchists and protestors from all over the country, primarily from the East coast. She somehow got on a mailing list from a local group, asking her to contribute to the cost of bringing the shit bums in, for transportation, food and a request to lodge them in local homes. She said they had their hit list of places to protest and cause trouble.

Have nothing but contempt for them and respect for the officers.

BTW, that kid who was killed by the off duty officer in St Louis had evidence all over him of his having shot at the officer, also many pics emerged of him with 3 guns stuck in his belt. So much for that innocent child.
