A coffee shop in a high school?

NIANTIC – The Storm is Brewing, and it smells a whole lot like coffee.

On school mornings, Sangamon Valley High School students get off the buses and come through the main hallway on their way to the cafeteria, where they wait for the first bell.

In doing so, they have to walk right past the Storm Is Brewing, the new coffee shop staffed by members of the school's business classes and the Future Business Leaders of America club. The Storm is Sangamon Valley's sports team name.

Proceeds from the coffee shop, which also sells hot chocolate, tea and pencils, will help the club members attend conferences and other activities.

I started drinking coffee when I was in high school, but not at school. I could see selling hot chocolate or hot tea in the winter time, but coffee?

This is my old high school.

When I was in High school I could go into the cafeteria in the morning, and load up a thermos full of coffee to carry with me to class.  They charged the teachers about 25¢ a mug; I'd pay a buck for the full thermos.

I am against kids getting caffeine in high school.

I would even limit their soda intake because of the caffeine. 

I knew a neighbor girl that was addicted to it.  She was allowed to have it at a young age.  You would think she was on speed they way it affected her.

The only place coffee was available when I was in school was the teacher's lounge and they also had a coke machine in there.  The cafeteria only had milk, water or some generic Kool-Aid .

We had a Coke machine next to the administrative office, and another one outside the gymnasium.  The teachers had to go into the cafeteria to get their coffee, and so it was a small step for me to plunk down as well, and score my caffeine fix for the day.
