25 and he will be in prison for the rest of his miserable life
Idiot kid starts a fight in a bar by my house and ends up biting off more than he can chew. Gets his ass beat for hitting on some other guys wife while his own wife isn't watching. 30 minutes later, hormonal guy is walking down the street and sees the guy he fought with and tells his own wife to "go get my gun" with about 2 dozen witnesses standing around. She does. Within minutes, amidst all of the yelling of the bystanders/witnesses for this asshole to cool his jets, the husband of the woman who was hit on is dead on my neighbor's stoop, and come to find out from the Chief of Ds (who we know - good guy) that the asshole told the police that he would have shot him twice if the gun wouldn't have jammed.

Now, we are dealing with a memorial site full of 12" tall glass candle holders precariously lining the edge of the street as we live on a city side street - no sidewalks (tonight it had grown to 32 of them). A kid is dead for no damn reason, and we are afraid to pull into the alley where we live for fear someone drives through and leaves a sea of broken glass in their wake. Neighbors are threatening to clear the memorial site, and won't listen to the voice of reason saying to allow them their time - the funeral isn't until Monday. We can move them (and have been) back out of traffic patterns. They are just inviting retribution on all of us right now. Let the people ****ing grieve their loss. Kid was a 27 year old married father of 3 for cryin' out loud.

What a damned nightmare - all because some impotent asshole started a row, and now my neighbors are waiving handguns around like the zombie apocalypse just kicked off.

I want my life back. This is nuts.

Oh, and yeah, this is not a "gun" thread - kid could have been killed by any means. Its just the insanity of living on scene in the aftermath of a murder scene. This is crazy.

1. If you/any of your neighbors have some milk crates and an old door or piece of AC plywood...

You could put the board/door between the milk crates and get the memorial artifacts off the ground. Maybe put an old broke-down lawn chair or other small piece of furniture a few yards in front of the memorial with a hand written SLOW DOWN-OBJECTS IN ROAD AHEAD or something like that to make them stop.

I couldn't find an old broke-down lawn chair. I usually throw broken shit away. I would have to look into a DUmpster in an alley to find one. Problem is that we don't have alley's either.

4. This is a brilliant idea

Best of both worlds. Thanks MADem - will go back out now and see what we can do. Access is a 1 way, 1 lane alley, so the lawn chair won't work - but I will throw all of this out there to see what people think, especially as it is now getting dark.

Maybe this will calm everything down.

Thank you.

5. Sending warm thoughts your way...ask the neighbors if anyone has an old traffic cone,

or even a few of those trunk triangles that people keep in their cars to get people to stop.

One more thing, since I'm on an "idea" roll--if you have any old versions of those cheesy little solar plastic lights that you shove into the ground to light a path, and they are still holding a charge, tape them to the side of your altar/proscenium facing the oncoming traffic--that might slow them down. Also, anything reflective--even some tin foil--would throw their headlight lights back at a driver.

18. From the bottom of my heart - thank you.

We all just got together and built a shrine that is half a block as opposed to a porch. Took cinderblocks and milk cartons and 2x6 boards and put all of those candles and teddy bears and flowers on them and spread them out to be up and off the street and across the block as opposed to concentrated in one spot.

Thank you,MADem. We needed a level head tonight and you stepped to the plate.

No wonder why neighborhoods need to be razed after they're vacated by DUmmy's.

Uninhabitable.

9. Is the shooter's wife in trouble?

I only ask because why the hell would anyone retrieve a gun for someone who's in a rage like that.

It's awful how many people are willing to throw lives away: theirs, someone else's, their families, their victims' families, etc. And like you're relating it screws up everyone around it too. I hope things settle down in your neighborhood and that no one else gets hurt.

11. She was probably afraid not to.

He may have a habit of beating on her when he is drunk and pissed off.

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh.

Dual slamming rant. Got the bad gun and bad man hating woman
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.
