I just heard the longest peal of thunder ever!

It went for like two freakin minutes! Just a long, loud rumble right overhead.

The radar just made a drastic change in Polk County.  Seeing lots of lightning.

Still will take this rather than snow or cold.

I've been here for a number of years now. But I'm still an Arizona boy. T-storms are pure entertainment for me.

Neat! 

I like hearing it.  Had two clients outside today when a small squall was moving in.  I told them I would hurry and get them into the building and one said, "No hurry.  The smell of rain and the sound of thunder is wonderful!"  The other agreed.  They did let me get them near the door.  The storm went south of us, and we got to watch the show.

I've only gotten to hear long rumblings when it was bouncing off canyon walls or mountain tops.  And nothing that long.

Twice I have been across the street when lightning struck:  Once in Pittsburgh, then in Overland Park, KS.

Loudest damn sound(s) I have ever heard!  In KS I was in a hotel and it hit the light post across the street. I thought the window would break!

I see Iowa got hammered, but I dunno how badly.

Up over here in northeastern Nebraska, it's total devastation.

If one's in the glass business, head this way; the pickings are good, as whole entire main streets of small towns are lined with plywood-covered "windows."

When I was a kid, lightning struck a nearby tree. Knocked me off my feet. My father was shouting at me but I couldn't hear him. He had to pick me up. The sound was deafening. it was like half an hour before I could hear anything.

Pretty scary for a little Mannn.

Oh, but we all survived.

No fatalies, no reported injuries.

Substantial property damage, though, and the farmers will have to replant their crops.

There's three pick-up trucks, one sedan, and one SUV (sports utility vehicle) kept out here, along with my own car.  Because the others belong to other people, I got those under cover, and so no damage.

My car had to sit out there in the open, and I watched as it got pummeled.

It was odd, though--and such things are known to happen--there's a hairline crack on the windshield, but there's not a single dent, ding, or indentation on the body of my car.  I dunno how that happened--it was pretty fierce hail, and so long-lasting--but it did.

Living out in the country, in a house built in the 1930s, we have 3 lightening rods across the roof connect to a huge steel (I think) cable that runs from the back of the house to the front. I giggled and made fun of them, thinking it was a bit of "overkill" until the first big thunderstorm after we moved in. Lightening did hit the rods, HUGE noise, very bright flash...and yet no damage. Then I told my husband I think maybe he should install a few more lightening rods.

We've also had it strike the farm fencing around the yard. Very cool to watch the metal fence turn blue for a minute or so.

Glad you survived the ordeal, Frank.  I saw some nasty looking pictures from around there.

 Heard from a friend who lives up the road from you.  She just sold her house & is moving away, but the baseball sized hail broke a bunch of her windows and caused some other nasty damage to the property.

It's weird, the greyhounds sleep through any storm, but let Darlene hear any fireworks miles away and she trembles and cries. Go figure.
