Oh my.

You know, it's really bad, when not only the Lounge, but the cooking and baking forum on Skins's island finds the primitives discussing issues of far more importance than what's being talked about in General Discussion.

1. Left overs. Sunday is clear out the fridge day...

2. Italian 'skillet'

Not sure what to call it, but it's been a favorite since I was a kid. Made in a Lodge cast iron pan.

Italian sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms, garlic, and stewed tomatoes. Fold in cubed boiled potatoes. If you let it simmer enough, the spuds let off their starch, and thicken the tomato sauce.

Oh yeah, garlic bread is a must!

3. That sounds really good. I love "skillet" meals. Or a one pot dish.

Ever tried a bit of cinnamon in tomato sauce? Doesn't take much but, I like what it adds.

7. Never tried cinnamon

Interesting... I usually associate cinnamon and tomatoes with eastern fare.

Hmmm... might have to try it and see!

Oh yeah, I do like one pot/skillet meals, too. Saves on washing dishes as well!

8. Try it out sometime. Adds a savory (?) bit to a sauce.

Italian in-law side of my family turned me on to it. That and anchovies...

5. Leftovers for me too.

I did an interesting Mexican chicken recipe last night. I'm going to do some tacos with it tonight with chips and hummus. I know....but I love hummus!

<<<when at the grocery store, saw pallets outside with transparent plastic bags stacked on them; they were marked "hummus."

I dunno where the jazzy primitive lives, but around here, we use it as garden fertilizer.

6. Oven-barbecued back ribs.

Salad. I actually have some decent tomatoes, so one of those, too.

^^^probably has a black-framed icon of the late red round one hanging in her apartment, a candle eternally lit burning in front of it.

9. stuffed portabellas

jammed with leftover chicken breast, tomatoes, fresh herbs from the garden, shredded mozzarella and corn bread stuffing, topped with a chive blossom from the garden.

Baked long red sweet peppers sliced and stuffed with a tiny bit of cream cheese, salted and peppered.

and baked sweet potatoes.
apres moi, le deluge

I wonder where the primitive bought his hummus.  There is a big recall on it.  Listeria is the offending bacteria...one of the really bad ones.

11. leftover scalloped potatoes.

Potatos? I'm having a Dan Quayle moment all of a sudden, on the pluralization of potato.

I also picked the first two strawberries of the season. Small, but ripe.

I'm having a Barry Soetoro moment--I'm eating dog.  Just kidding.  No real American would eat dog.
