Nebraska's second mountain lion hunting season closes with a kill (may be last season)

http://www.omaha.com/article/20140226/OUTDOORS/140228869/1685#nebraska-s-second-mountain-lion-hunting-season-closes-with-a-kill

Nebraska’s second mountain lion hunting season in the Pine Ridge closed Wednesday when a hunter shot and killed a female cougar.

The cat was killed in Sheridan County, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

The 102-pound lion was estimated to be 5 1/2 years old and appeared to have been in good health. It showed no signs of lactation or dependent young.

snip: This could be the state’s first and last mountain lion hunting season. The Nebraska Legislature is considering a bill to ban the hunting of the big cats. Legislative Bill 671 cleared the first of three rounds of consideration Friday. The bill, sponsored by State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha, carries an emergency clause, meaning it would become law when signed by the governor.

1. Am I wrong to admit that I was hoping it was not the cat who was deceased?

2. wonder how much it costs taxpayer for a hunting season on a population of 22 lions across the State

3 permits total! I hope they made those permit 'winners' pay a million each to kill a lion that already had an ear tag!

It could've been a longer thread, if the big guy'd stuck around and gotten engaged with his audience.

But no, Chief Weeping Bull had to post-and-run as usual.

You idiot it doesn't cost the taxpayer anything.  Most fees are paid for through different sportsman fees  (license, ammo, etc.).  Instead of trying to explain go to a nads of the Pittman-Robertson Act.

Hillneck just beat me to it. Barely.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

According to the primitives a quick death via gunshot is cruel but the cat starving to death is OK. :banghead:
Plenty of recent articles out there about mountain lions stalking people and pets, most say that the cat was emaciated.
