My dumbass cat likes to chew on string.  String, wires, shoelaces, cords... anything hanging, he'll chew on it until it's gone.  I hung up some toys and he chewed the strings off them and ignored the toys.  Destructive bastard.

Anyone else's do this?

My God, he's gotten fat (it's been a while since I've been to this thread).

What are you feeding him?--a 5,000 calorie-a-day diet?

I was feeding him too much because I didn't bother to read the feeding directions on the food bag.  I've started putting less and less food out in the last couple of weeks.

I've never looked at the feeding instructions, because I was always under the impression that cats self-regulate, and from my experience, apparently and obviously they do.

But I assume the works only under circumstances where cats live in a more-natural state, rather than just as a house-cat.  And so probably a cat that's wholly a house-cat needs watched.

I started measuring out his food.  He gets a cup of food in the morning and another half-cup or a little less when I get home.  It looks like he's slimmed down a bit in the last couple of weeks.  He doesn't have the Big Fat Ass he was carrying around before.

Maya, the Australian shepherd mix that we recently adopted, has gained 4 lbs. in the two weeks we've had her. She was slightly emaciated when we got her - the vet said about a 3 on a scale of 1-10. We'll level her out at about 50 lbs. and monitor from there.

Belle, our golden retriever, had gotten to 99 lbs. before we reeled her in. She's down to 73 lbs. now and that's an ideal weight for her as she's a BIG female. She gets 2 cups of a low-fat food per day, plus all the veggies she can eat, so that works nicely for her.

All 3 dogs get a daily walk of usually 1.6 miles (1 mile on the treadmill when the weather's bad) and they play pretty hard in the snow, so they're burning off some of that energy too.

I believe that Chris also has a dog--late addition--and it's the dog's cage.  Bob walked through the open cage door/gate and plopped down.
