I live in a right to work state. They still only pay you what yer worth. Granted, I doubt there are any workers being paid $8 here, but that is their starting wage.
my daughter is a Pharm Tech working at Wally's and makes $18 plus bennies, but she's been there for 12 years.
This fellow has been with them about 15 years. Started out unloading trucks on the weekend shift. Moved up to better jobs. One was forklift mechanic and now some form of supervision.
He got his girlfriend pregnant and dropped out of high school in the tenth grade to support her and raise a family...no government freebies ever for him. He started working for me as a second job and was more dependable than any of my employees. He worked for me only for about 12 years until WAL-MART opened a distribution center about 30 miles away. I encouraged him to apply for a weekend job there for the benefits. He wasn't going to apply because they required a high school diploma. The lady at WAL-MART called to ask me about his work record. I told her the truth and added, "I know he doesn't look like the type but he's hard working, honest, dependable and will make you a good employee." She asked why I was encouraging her to hire him and if he was going to continue to work for me during the week. I was honest, I told her he needed the extra money and especial benefits. Told her that he had been working at least two full time jobs most of the time since he was 15 years old.
When the WAL-MART distribution center first opened they had people quitting right and left. They just didn't want to work at the pace they required or to be on the job every time they were supposed to be. The hiring lady called me more than once wanting to know if I knew any more like the fellow I had recommended. I told her "NO" but if I did I'd hire them myself and let her use them on the weekends.....LOL
