Prosense crossing the line?
« on: February 08, 2014, 10:19:35 PM »
Got two posts from prosense. One the dump should get all agog about... some senator name Wyden is proposing tax breaks for people that make less than 60,000. The other is where Wyden is crossing obumbles. Walking a fine line he is.

Ore. Sen. Wyden gives tax overhaul top priority
Ore. Sen. Wyden gives tax overhaul top priority

By JEFF BARNARD

Sen. Ron Wyden, the incoming chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said Friday his first priority in the job will be overhauling the nation’s tax system, which he called a ‘‘dysfunctional, rotten mess.’’

<...>

Wyden said he plans to start the overhaul by pushing a bill filed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to extend some 50 tax breaks that expired in December for such things as research and development, renewable energy and mortgage debt and use the extensions as a bridge to comprehensive changes.

Wyden would also like to see the standard deduction tripled to $30,000, so for ‘‘a middle-class person making $50,000 or $60,000, $30,000 would be off limits’’ for taxation.

Wyden said he’s already started working on revamping the income tax code with Sen. Dan Coates, R-Ind.

2. Big rec

30k standard exemption would be great. Gross salary is a joke. I remember before being done with school, it seemed I would be so well off with the starting salaries out of college. Once you actually got them, it was different. You get in that tax range where you get hit much harder. By the time all was said and done (higher taxes, student loans), you were actually worse off than you were before school.

All I got to say about that comment is "DUH!!!!".

How Wyden is slowing Obama on trade
How Wyden is slowing Obama on trade

By Vicki Needham

The next chairman of the Senate Finance Committee is making it plain to President Obama that he will not rush forward with “fast-track” legislation that would spur on the White House’s trade agenda.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) has no plans to take up the fast-track bill written by outgoing Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.)...Instead, he says he will hear out other senators on trade, a policy area he says has changed tremendously since the last time a fast-track bill was approved, in 2002.

<...>

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), a member of the panel who has been critical of free-trade policies, said his view is that Wyden will ditch the bill Baucus wrote with Sen. Orrin Hatch (Utah), the top Republican on Finance, and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.).

Brown expects Wyden to start from scratch.

“We’re not going to pass a 2002 fast-track and that’s pretty much what the Hatch-Camp-Baucus bill was,” he told The Hill. “It was dressing up the pig to make it look a little better ...“It has to be fundamentally different,” Brown said of a future bill.

1. Wyden's been helpful lately

It's bizarre that we need to contain a Democratic president for the next three years... but here we are.

2. Right?

"It's bizarre that we need to contain a Democratic president for the next three years... but here we are."

Makes you wonder why Obama didn't just leave Baucus in place.

WTF?

3. Realistically, the only things he can achive in 3 years

are his right-wing aspirations of free trade and cutting the social safety net. We need to make sure it doesn't happen.

Obumbles right wing? So that is how the spin will go at the dump now!  BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

6. And there is a problem with Senator Wyden slowing down a trade agreement

that is not favorable to this country? We've seen what has happened with NAFTA.

But, but, but obumbles cares about you poor folks!!!!

Small bonfires both. Dunno if they will grow or not.

There have been a lot of threads over there lately about Obama being in bed with Corporatists. Especially since he is for the new trade treaty.

I wonder how long Skinner is gonna tolerate it though, Dori. 3 years ago they would have all been given the granite.

I think it is funny though that the all fawning dump has turned on obumbles. It would be even better if he approves the pipeline from Canada. Dummies heads a-splode everwhere!!!

A middle class tax cut would require cutting spending, a butt load of money comes from the middle class.
