"Maybe you should check into applying for Obamacare?"... "Yeah, that's what the doctor said"


So my late fiftyish, self-employed, not-really-political but vaguely Paulite and currently uninsured neighbor went for his first checkup in five or so years yesterday. I talked to him this morning and he told me he has high blood pressure, some kind of electrical abnormality with his heart and is a candidate for a hip replacement.

I quietly mentioned that he should possibly check into Obamacare and he told me the doctor had said just that to him and I think he's really going to do it.

I think Obamacare sucks because it doesn't go nearly far enough but that doesn't stop me from reminding people to take advantage of what it does do for them.

It's interesting that I've become the go-to person in my circle for dispensing information about Obamacare despite the fact it won't do anything for me AFAICT.

Wouldn't surprise me that the Dr. was just trying to push him out the door as a greater risk than he would rather not handle. What, exactly would O-Care do for him? Up his deductible? Increase his co-pay? Would the hip replacement count as half an abortion?

One thing the exhaust sucking primitive forgot to mention was the neighbor's age. The blood pressure and "electrical" problem can probably be handled with generic drugs, but if he's sixty, or older, he ain't gonna get no new hip.

If the poor sucker is employed, the premiums, deductible and copays will probably set off the heart attack.

They also think that they get to keep their doctor or go to the top specialist in their field.

A $600 dollar premium, a $6500 deductible, and then he gets 60/40. Obama Care is going make that poor bastard's day.

Considering the security risks the Barrycare site is having, I wouldn't sign up my dog.

And I sure as hell ain't signing up for anything as long as Barry and his cast of mental midgets are within 5,000 miles of Washington DC.

"Obamacare" is not a separate type of insurance that is magically better than all the others, it is simply the law that requires everybody to have insurance.  It will not necessarily make insurance more affordable, it only does that for people who qualify for subsidies.  If he is self-employed I doubt that it will help him much.

Obviously the Dr is not going to be an Obamacare provider and has found a way to get rid of patients
