fizzgig (19,007 posts) Thu Dec 5, 2013, 12:42 PMmy mom needs help getting her mouth fixed up, a wishadoo! requestLast edited Thu Dec 5, 2013, 12:43 PM - Edit history (1)ADMIN NOTE: This is one of those rare occasions where I will personally chime in. Laylah is one of the very first, founding members of Wishadoo! and has consistently offered resource suggestions, well wishes, and anything else she can to those who have found their way to Wishadoo! over the years in need, often in crisis. As she says below, asking for help, out loud, from strangers and loved ones alike is hard for her...it's hard for most of us. I am grateful and honored that she is allowing others the opportunity to be of service to HER, and that Wishadoo! is the platform for these connections. She is a shining example of the spirit of Wishadoo!~ DenaAsking for help goes against my grain. I've always been the one asking for help for others. After much "poking and prodding" from loved ones, I have agreed to swallow my pride and take a chance.I am in dire need of an upper denture and lower partial. The complete cost will be close to $9000.00, to include the prep work needed before I can be fitted. I do have dental insurance but it has a $1500.00 per year limit. I did start taking early Social Security to help defray the costs; however, it appears the game rules have been changed. I was told I neednt' worry about the usual requirement of 50% down. The person I initially conferred with told me she had spoken with her boss and the boss had ok'd the payment plan I'd offered. That same person is now saying she never told me that, she'd never spoken to her boss, leaving me to believe they are expecting me to sit, toothless, until July, 2014, when my next dental insurance benefit year begins. I certainly would have never gotten my teeth pulled had I been told that in the beginning!http://www.wishadoo.org/fundraising/1/DOLLARS%20FOR%20DENTURES/mom needs $1,725 to move forward with the process of getting her much-needed dentures.my mom has always been the first to help those in need and would give the shirt off her back to help someone else, but it is very difficult for her to have to ask others for help. she's the one who introduced me to du and posted here for several years and i'm hoping the community can come through for her in any way possible.we know that it is the holidays and that times are tight for many people, but any small bit would mean the world to her. my husband lost his job a few weeks ago, so we can't offer her any help.her mouth was making her so sick before the extractions and i just want my mom to be well. she jokes that all she wants for christmas is her two front teeth and i hope that can come true for her.WHAT IS WISHADOO!? The most basic description of the Wishadoo! Community site is this: a do-gooder social network with comprehensive tools to connect, help/be helped, and cultivate compassion, cooperation and authentic community in myriad ways, online and in our own "backyards." Wishadoo!'s tools have been designed to integrate and be of service to all sectors of community: individuals, neighborhoods, schools organizations and businesses.http://www.wishadoo.org/

Nice Chompers!! I bet with those you could even eat a golden apple.
I had to go and look.Too bad for stewert; he didn't make it.One wonders if he's out collecting discarded aluminum cans now. It'd be good for him, as he's a pretty hefty guy and could stand to lose a few.
The fizzgig's mother's choppers fund raised more money than stewert has managed to hustle out of the DUmp in almost three months, in less than three hours.
She's gotten $620 thus far, a nice start. One has to give her kudos for giving the option of donating directly to the dental office (in her name) rather than to her own pocket. I think that speaks volumes.
