Sometimes it really, really, really sucks to be right.

The guy was "not seriously injured." The OP's assertion wasn't accurate--his example just got grazed in the leg by a garden-variety THIEF. And NOT anywhere near the store, either. The guy was at his apartment complex when that shit went down.

No one person in that entire litany of "violence against shoppers" link was killed. Not one.

Geez, I hate this overdramatic posturing. Yes, it's crass to shop on the "sacred" day that commemorates the first meal with the Wampanoag on Cape Cod (when a bunch of white people turned up and were uninvited guests, basically) but it's not the end of the world, either. If the day is sacred to you, stay home.

Don't tell other people how to live their lives, it never works, anyway. Their attitude is "Great--stay home...all the more goodies for MEEEEEEEEEEE!"

The new paradigm is 24 hour consumerism. People who want to eschew that kind of thing and can't control themselves need to move to the country, far from any malls. Even at that, with a click of the mouse, people can shop in their underwear at two in the morning.

The people I saw interviewed on TV were flat-out saying that they were poor, and the reason they were waiting in the cold for the stores to open was because they wanted to give their kids a better Christmas than they actually could afford, and this was the only way they could do it.

Personally, I think they'd be better off telling kids that they're Spanish, celebrating Three Kings' Day on Jan 6, keeping the 25th as a religious holiday, and buying all the presents in the AFTER - Xmas sales....

I'm not crazy about this black friday stuff, but I am not a whiny bitch who demands that everyone exist to please me. My God, if people didn't enjoy doing this they wouldn't, they would stay home. This is the biggest holiday next to tax day for the 0bamaphone people. Normally DUmmies are all for them enjoying life on the taxpayer dime, but they get their panties all bunched up because it happens on a holiday that they hate the meaning of in the first place.

I don't participate in black Friday, but that's because I do not like crowds or aggravating traffic & parking.  But never in a million years would I tell someone what they should and shouldn't do.  Will is a fussbudget nanny-type; and to top it off he had to make all about him.   Asshat.

I find the whole camping out in front of stores and getting up at 5am to stand in crushing lines thing silly, but if someone has the time and inclination to do it I'm not going to damn them to Hell for it. What I find stupid is the fights and people getting knocked down and hurt in those ridiculous stampedes that occur when the doors are opened. But there again, you bought your ticket to the E-ride so what did you expect? I would suggest a football helmet and full pads.

I've done all my Christmas shopping online for years. I'd rather shell out a few extra bucks for shipping and have it dropped on my doorstep than face the madness. My wife is just the opposite - she loves the whole see-and-be-seen carnival. That's not me. I've detested standing in lines ever since I got out of the Navy.

We SAVE our money all year for the big must haves and head out on Friday to take advantage of the sales.

This year we finally bought a dishwasher after 2 years when the 16 year old one died in a spectacular fashion.

We did the washing by hand for a couple years then after getting tired of that Hubby headed out to buy a brand new one that will hopefully live another 16 years.

He managed to get a top of the line washer that sells for $670.00 the rest of the year for half off at Lowe's.

Nothing wrong with saving and paying cash for the expensive stuff when the sale's come about.

We do not give toys to the kids we give them gift cards, Out of my life time I  only think I ever received what I wanted from family, a cap gun and a couple Tonka's big trucks to play on the beach with.  At 17 I received a hair dryer.   Everything else I have forgotten.  

Give the kids the money and take them to  the after Christmas sale's .   Let them pick out what they want----I do this with my dog, take her to Pet co, walk her up and down the isles and wait to see what she wants to play with.

Same thing all the drunks do here in WV... buy enough on Saturday to get them thru until Monday. It's real fun to see the local sots try to buy their booze on election day. State law bans selling booze on election day here. We had a special election to replace the governor a few years back on a Saturday. I read in the local paper that admissions to local hospitals due to the DT's went way up that weekend.

Well he was not in Conn. when the laws shut down the sale of beer and wine at 6 pm.

Say Sparky , when I lived in Tenn. I lived in a dry County.   Coming home after a 10 hour shift I had to drive 2 miles to the next county to buy a beer at 2-3 AM.

Fun, walk into a 24/7 gas station, pick up a paper bag at the counter and head for the coolers.   Place a prouder in the bag and take it to the register where the clerk had a police scanner on.   Clerk looks into the bag for the price on top of what ever you want to buy, rings it up and out the door you go home to a dry county.

Wide open spaces out there, lovely land and fun people.   One can travel 50 miles and never see any cops.  Poor State cops have a 150 mile area to patrol and city cops stay in the city.  A whole lot different from NH.   Real Rebel country that is nothing like N.H.

I got out around 9am this morning and was quite surprised to find it like most weekend shopping days.

I will be interested to see what the consumer spending $$ is going to be.
