Seems that the current mindset among the go-along-to-get-along Republicans in D.C. led, by Mr. 1%* Karl Rove, is “let the Democrats get their way with (insert failed policy idea here), people will see how much their policies are a failure and in time they will implode on themselves.”

Can you imagine if George Washington and the Founding Fathers had said, “We don’t need to resist King George, let him impose his taxes, seize our rifles and house troops in our homes, people will see what a scourge he is and his policies will implode on themselves. We don’t need a Revolution, we’ll be blamed for it if it fails and people will hate us.”

Or if FDR had said, “We shouldn’t declare war on Imperial Japan and NAZI Germany. Let them have their way. People will see how much their policies are a failure and in time they will implode on themselves.”

What would the world be like today if Ike had said, “The Cold War and resistance to Communism around the world is unnecessary and will make us look like warmongers and jingoistic aggressors. Let Khrushchev spread Communism to the world. People will see how much their policies are a failure and in time they will implode on themselves.”

Can you honestly see President Bush on September 17, 2001, declaring before both Houses of Congress, “there is no need for the U.S. to hunt down and punish the groups responsible for the attacks on 9/11. If we do, world opinion might turn against us and, besides, people will see how much their policies are a failure and in time they will implode on themselves.”

Thank God! that at these critical junctures in our nation’s history there wasn’t a Karl Rove whispering in the President’s ear, or if there had been, the Commander-in-Chief wisely ignored him. Imagine where we’d be today if any of our leaders had listened to that kind of advice? All you have to know about where this ill-conceived advice is leading us today is that it would have spelled disaster for our country had our leaders followed it — plus we wouldn’t be here talking about it.

* By the way, 1% is roughly what Karl Rove’s winning percentage is for the campaigns for which he has (handsomely) been hired and acted as a political consultant.

I'm still waiting for Ohio to go for Romney like Rove said it would on election night.

Somehow surrender and retreat have become accepted Republican strategies.  And Karl Rove is leading the way...along with heading up the witch hunt to exterminate potential Conservative's who want to run for elected office.
