Humane Society

My wife volunteers at the local Humane Society. The society has won awards for its actions.

Yesterday she attended an adoption event. It appears that over 125 dogs were adopted! One she was tending was adopted. Some cats were adopted, too!

I am a through and through dog lover. They are truly man's best friend.

All of my dogs for the past 40 years have been adoptions, rescues, giveaways, drop offs, abandoned or otherwise without a good home. I've kept as many as six at a time, for the rest of their lifetimes, to make them loved, safe, and as comfortable as I could. There are four right now, and Max, a Golden Retriever who was a drop off seven years ago, is nearing his final years at twelve.

Kudos to you and your wife CG! A man's character is known by how he treats his dog.

I would love to have a dog...don't get me wrong, I love Jingles(the psycho kitty), but a dog would be great. Living on this farm, I will have lots of animals to be around!! Still so excited!!!

I just hate these video's of pets abandoned, I want to bring them ALL home.

Actually I have become interested in the dogs for wounded warriors project.  These hero's come home to find everything has changed and end up living on the streets or abandoned buildings. No reason to live until they are given a reason, a dog that needs them.

There are a few documentaries out there that show  what some call a social experiment, I call a blessing.     Homeless Vets are paired up with shelter dogs, their food, the dogs, is free as is doctor care.

Volunteers keep track of the Vets. and the dogs and check on them every week.   This is good for the Vets. as some would have died had not someone come to check on their dog.

Come winter and bitter cold both the Vets. and their dogs are given shelter, you know the expression of  " I would not turn a dog out in this weather,"   Many a person living in a car has been saved by a dog on their lap and both keeping each other warm.

Some of these homeless are not fit to have a dog, the volunteers find that out most fast, and the dog is reassigned to someone else that can care for it and they for them.

I have yet to find any breed of dog that is not in some way a working dog, they all take their job seriously, be it to wait 8 hours by the window for you to come home to guarding your bed from the pesky cats.

Be it as it is, I would prefer to live in a tent in Alaska with a couple of Newfoundlands to keep me warm then a ritzy apartment on Park AVE. with no dog.

Great stuff CG. I have 2 retrievers, and wish I could bring every stray home.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Great website, glad to hear your wife helps them out.

I just helped them out a little bit with an online donation.

I let a possum go, yesterday.
Cute little critter.  Didn't want to leave the garbage can for over an hour.
I knew he left when the squirrels started barking.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”
