And cannot read cursive.
Has she not noticed, at age 19, that cursive is basically printing, with the letters joined together by not lifting the pen/pencil?
I'm a high school teacher at a pretty solid private school. Very few kids can read cursive anymore. My daughters, who go to Catholic grade schools, are taught it and use it. But it's not taught in other places, or at least not taught intensively. With the move towards a paperless society, the Palmer Method of writing, shorthand classes, and the like will all be going the way of cuneiform.
There's still a place on the SATs that you have to write a sentence in cursive saying that the work is your own. It freaks many HS students out.
