And yes, the latest NSA scandal is another one of those moment s we realize...it is not working.
Autumn (11,400 posts) Sat Jun 8, 2013, 04:07 PM1. That is a superb article. Thanks for posting it.
nadinbrzezinski (120,991 posts) Sat Jun 8, 2013, 04:11 PM2. We cover a lot of local politicsBoards, city halls, development boards, county board of supervisors. I knew they mattered back in the day. Now I know they are fundamental. In a place like this it will be heresy, but they matter more to my every day life than the Presidency, the House and the Senate...period, full stop.
byeya (2,167 posts) Sat Jun 8, 2013, 04:14 PM3. I often wish that the Declaration of Independence were part of the Constitution. RW judges never seem to refer to it when trying to gauge the temper of the times in the late 18th century.Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and all that...

leveymg (26,585 posts) Sat Jun 8, 2013, 04:23 PM6. I used to think that public funded elections were the answer. Now, I think declassification of all documents and secret communications, particularly those that involve spying on ourselves. Clearly, the American body politic is corrupted and needs radical change. Disinfect the system by cutting off political slush funds and open all processes and actions to the public - I can't think of anything that would have a stronger immediate impact to which we all might agree.
nadinbrzezinski (120,991 posts) Sat Jun 8, 2013, 04:31 PM10. Not mutually exclusive. There is a role for secrecy, such as disposition of a division for example...but we have gone so overboard that things that routinely were in the public record, are classified these days. It's institutional and we need to start there. Of course things like telephone records being kept need to be deep sixed on principle.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022972463Oh my.franksolich's cousin.^^^the cousin's trying to sound cerebral, brainy, but don't let that fool anybody.
If she's a 'historian' my wife's dog is an airplane. You need to stop typing nadin because your stupid is showing.
I need to go to Denver. Can I borrow your wife's dog?
She probably wouldn't let you borrow the dog; however, if she did let you borrow the dog and if you did attempt to fly it to Denver you would actually arrive in Denver and be on the way back long before nadin displayed any intelligence.
In other words, it would be an extended stay.
She's a journo.
Since the dog's not available you could try to catch a ride on a loose windmill blade. I hear those travel miles and miles. You'd still be back before nadin displayed intelligence.Suffice it to say you could probably rig a sail to a canoe and let the radiated winds of Fukushima blow you to the Sea of Tranquility on the moon and back before nadin displays intelligence. Yup. She seems to be intelligence challenged.
Is that pronounced "Yur - Nal"?Get it?
