I have gotta control my drinking
This is day two without alcohol. Sleeping is almost impossible, and I am tormented with nervous energy.

The best way to control your drinking is to quit completely for some time - get your body used to no alcohol

See, I was drinking about 1/4 of a bottle of scotch a night

Not a ton, but enough to get physically dependent

From what I've read I should detox for at least as long as I have been drinking, if not more

That's about 4 years

I can do it

0

Taverner, it ain't really gettin' sober if you're still doing the rest of the drugs.

1. You can do it.

Please try to identify triggers that disrupt you, for some it's family tension, for others, well who knows.

Allow yourself to eat something instead.

Be mindful that any amount is too much.

I could go on, I don't want to preach, just do what your body and soul are telling you to do and knock it off.

Life.  The fact that he is alive drives him to look for things to alter his perception.

2. It's a lot of things: work situation (been bad since 2010)...

Not to mention that having kids, even 10 years later, terrifies the shit out of me

I love them and that's why I feel this way

And, the chief trigger - - boredom

When I am involved in something my mind is off of it

I never want a drink at the gym, or while I'm driving, or while I'm working

I could get over the cravings - that's just a mind game

It's the withdrawals that are killing me

Boredom, It's possible to do any number of things if you have time to get bored.  You choose to get high.

Followed by some discussion of using marijuana to calm the detox effects from alcohol.  Then he could use crack to counter the effects of detoxing from marijuana.

The headline-- :lmao:

Actually, him going cold turkey like that could cause blood pressure spikes and siezures.  He should take it up again.

Gina, he can't go to AA because he virulently does NOT believe in a higher power of any kind.

Karin's right.  Though, I know of some sober atheists that used the rooms as their Higher Power.

It would also involve him taking responsibility for his actions.  He'll never do it.

Umm, if you're an alcoholic I don't think you're supposed to just quit on your own, we know someone who tried that and he had seizures and actually almost died, he was in ICU for a few days.

In Kregel's case, that's looking on the bright side.

I'd suggest that if he's overwhelmed with nervous energy, he needs to increase his heroin intake and maybe bump up his oxycontin a little.

That should offset the reduction in alcohol.

And he really knocked that job interview out of the park!

I've heard of that too, infact they did die.  The body converts alcohol into sugar in your system.  Maybe if he just ate 10 candy bars at night, he wouldn't feel the withdrawl so much.

I think that is why everyone is behind his try at quitting.  O-)

I bet that much candy would stick in his throat and give him a stomach ache.

He should drink a 12 pack to wash it down, and take a handful of Lortab to make his stomach feel better.

Make sure you start the day with a half a bottle or so of Antabuse while you're at it, Tavs.

This was a lie, of course.  Unless he meant that 1/4, plus a 12 pack, plus a 1/2 bottle of gin.  He liked to have 4 martinis in a row, in the space of 20 minutes.

I can't imagine that anyone would not have him in their dead pool.

The only surprise is when he survives another year.
