06.13. 2008 - Port St. Lucie | An unnamed source claims that following the allegations of misconduct in the classroom, the Port Saint County School Board may not support teacher Wendy Portillo.

Across the country, there has been horror and disbelief that a vote has taken place in a kindergarten classroom in order to remove a 5 year old Alex Barton from his class. To make things worse, Alex has since been diagnosed with Autism.

The main publicized facts:
-The vote. 14 to 2. Released police report confirms that Mrs. Portillo admitted to a vote taking place against Alex.
-At the time of the vote, Wendy Portillo was aware that Alex Barton was suspected of being Autistic and was undergoing tests.
-There are further allegations of possible physical abuse in the classroom that were witnessed.
-DCF has yet to release their report and may not do so for another 2 months.
-Stated in the police report, Alex’s first removal from the classroom on the day in question, was due to his shoes being worn on the wrong feet.
-The school has reassigned Mrs. Portillo to a non-teaching role during the internal investigation. No other known action has taken place.
-Many parents of Wendy Portillo’s students are outraged.
-If the allegation of abuse is substantiated, the question of how many other children may have been mistreated will be raised by parents.
-Mrs. Portillo has not made any statements publicly about the events.

I don't know how credible the article is, since it came from a blog. Looks like Wendy Portillo is screwed. She can't really go anywhere because everyone knows who she is.
