I went and visited with my nephews yesterday and found my way into the world of 7 year old politics.

Jared tells me he wants the white guy to win.  I tell him, well you know I hope that the brown guy wins and I ask him, "why do you want the white guy to win."  He tells me that a 3rd grader told him that if the brown guy wins, that they're going to have to start going to school on Saturdays and Sundays and all through the summer.

 :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

(I have many questions on this, 1.  Why was a 3rd grader talking to Jared anyways?  2.  Why were they discussing politics?!?!)

My SIL and I told him the white guy's name is McCain and the brown guy is Obama.  Then Jared told me that he thinks that McCain's parents probably used to "own some brown people."

 :rotf:

I had an Obama button in my bag and I asked if he wanted it, and he looked at me all funny, but the 5 year old, Nathan, jumped at having an Obama button.  He put it on so proudly and wore it the rest of the evening.

LOL

BTW, my SIL is lib, and my brother's a conservative.  He just shook his head at the button.

I give it 9 bongs.  5 for converting a little kid.  1 for having an Obama button in your bag.  2 for the use of brown guy by a child. 1 for having a conservative BIL.

Wow!  9 bongs.  I feel honored.

It was quite funny really, when he said that the brown guy was gonna make him go to school every day and all summer.

Really, it amazes me that he knows that there's a presidential election going on in the first place.  I don't remember being that aware of things when I was a first grader.

And it's pure laziness that I had the button in the bag.  I had gotten it over last weekend and I haven't taken the buttons I got out of my bag yet.

We had a mock election when Carter was up against Ford.  I remember going home so proud that I voted for Carter.  I liked him because he smiled really big and had a daughter almost my same age.  I was either in first or second grade at the time.  My parents let me live with them after that even though I voted for a dem. :-)

LOL! I second the 9 bong rating.

My son told me today that he told his teacher (today was the last day of the year) that he didn't understand why she was voting for Hillary because Obama was going to give them raises if the students tested well. First of all, I was shocked that he said that and secondly, I was shocked that he turned it around on his teacher like that. Then I had to tell him that Hil had dropped out. He said, "I bet you're happy huh? You don't like her because she's mean right?"

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Well, this proves that 7 year olds and liberals have about the same basic understanding of politics.  I'll give the 7 year old higher marks for being able to grasp that liberal policies would hurt him personally.

GHWB was inaugurated while I was in the second grade.  We never had mock elections.  I remember they set up the tvs for us to watch the inauguration thought.  While I knew he was becoming president, I had no understanding of what was going on.

But seriously, why was some 3rd grader even talking to a 1st grader???  That's crossing all kinds of lines there.

I'm pretty sure the words "milk money" or "lunch money" probably crept into that conversation somewhere.  :-)
