18. I'm Considering a Run for Local Office in 2016
Though I have some issues that I have to deal with. Some are more complicated to deal with than others.
The first is financing, I'm already saving towards advertising in my campaign, and by advertising, I mean many, many, long trips to Kinko's. This is probably the most difficult since I'm not financially well-off.
Next is, where will I be in 2016? I'm only 18, yeah, and I have to transfer somewhere for my four-year college. I was tempted to stay down here in Orange County, and possibly go to UC Irvine, but over the past few months I've grown really sick of these suburbs, and want a change of pace, mixed with a wanting to go home to the Bay Area. So now I've made UC Berkeley my goal.
If I were to run there, I'd have a very good chance and good ability to mobilize the youth vote towards my direction. Being in a college town, a liberal one at that, I have an excellent chance of being elected.
If I actually campaign, though.
I sometimes say that running for City Councilman is more difficult than running for President. In some ways, it is, i.e. No name recognition, no constant funding, etc...
Most people just vote for the person with the word incumbent next to their name in these types of elections. Many think they don't even matter, which is sad.
Sounds kinda crazy, someone so young already planning to run for office, especially with so much time until election day, but politics is in my blood. My family includes two United States Senators, a Secretary of State, an Ambassador, and a Governor. They all served in the 1800s. My grandfather worked in the State Department. I found most of this out after I took an interest in politics, so this was pretty cool to learn.
Plus, from what I've seen, my generation NEEDS to get into government. We are much cooler-headed compared to the current elected officials. We'd take an active part in stopping climate change, and get other budgetary concerns done in a better way that protects Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security. (As you can imagine, we want those things, too. I know I do.) Even the most conservative and religious people I went to High School with here in Orange County had gay friends. There's hope in the brighter portion of my generation.
Wall of text, many stories, sorry about that. But in short, I have every intention to run, and if I lose? It will make a great term paper.
Looking at the post count could be a mole pulling a fast one on the DUmmies, but just in case this is an actual moonbat we need to keep an eye out and see if maybe the friends of Steve can help him out as well.
