Maybe I overreacted. I don't know. We weren't best of friends, but I've known him well for the past eight years. He's pretty conservative, which I've tolerated, but today he was pushing that Sandy Hook was a hoax. I can't be friends with someone like that anymore than I could be friends with an open racist (or a closet racist, though, that would be harder to detect, I guess).

So, I told him I couldn't associate anymore with someone who bought into that type of conspiracy. I got slammed for not respecting opinions ... but do I really have to respect everyone's opinion when, you know, I really don't? To me, views like this, hateful and dangerous views like this, shouldn't be accepted ... by anyone.

It's sad and if I see him in person, which I assume I will, I won't be mean to him or even cold ... but I can't associate with these people. They embarrass me. Harsh? Am I overreacting?

Hey DUmmy now you know how your ex friends prior to 2001 felt when you idiots started up all your MIHOP and LIHOP bullshit.

1. Nope. I've never understood why anyone would tolerate a hateful person,

yet alone call them 'friend'.

No DUmmy can be your friend then, since DU is full of hateful people.

ask yourself what have you lost who can overlook this tragedy and think of it is a hoax. Doesn't empathy integrity compassion mean anything to these people? Move up and on best of luck to you.

Just think of them as really late term abortions then you won't feel as bad.

15. I don't think you overreacted.

No one has the time or the energy to waste on this sort of stupidity. We have too.much work to do .

Yeah it's hard work demanding freebies from the government.

If Chimpy McBushhitler was still president these same DUmmies would be the ones spouting conspiracy theories.
They would accuse Cheney of being the gunman.

Light a rabbit cage on fire and they'll all fall in line with the Sandy Hook MIHOP/LIHOP. Or make a YouTube documentary.

Drunken Irishman,

Just because you sit by a guy at a bar every day for eight years doesn't mean he's your friend.

Let's pretend that instead of being made-up that the post above is actually true. :rotf:

Why is it that every time I see a DUmp post that has "ended a friendship today" that I think the phrase could easily and accurately be replaced with "made a sane person extremely happy today"?

He's pretty conservative, which I've tolerated
which translates into: he buys me stuff.

They embarrass me. You hang out at the DUmp. Let's think about the DUmp. A human woman who thinks she's a male cat. A 'woman' who thinks that 'blink, blink, blink, blink' is poetic genius. A  'tough guy' who sent out ninja lawyers that were so bad-ass that a naked guy with an adjustable wrench scared them into non-existence. MIHOP. LIHOP. Chemtrails. Spirit guides. Hurricane machines. Furries. But a conservative thinking something may be a hoax embarrasses you? At least you've drawn a line when it comes to embarrassment... I guess. Do you even know where the hell you've drawn the line?

Over reacting I see.

When the OJ saga started a coworker a black woman that was offended by the term African American, her family came here after the civil war, no slaves in her family. She was Black American as were her parents, grand parents and great grand parents.

We got to talking about OJ and she strangely started the old he was framed bit.   I listened to her and backed off, she was a good friend and something as silly as a passing openion at the very start of the case was nothing to end a 5 year relationship over.

Friendship is valuable and rare, we have to over look some quirks in each other, fancy having to live around people just like you in thinking.  How do you learn or grow without the ideas of others ???

Perhaps the ideas from your view point are wrong, but it gets one thinking if one listens, sometimes there is a gem of truth hidden in their ideas that we need to dig into to find out.

Friendship may take work to keep, but it is worth it in the long run.   One cannot chose their family, only their friends, I have been told that when a person dies few have more true friends then the fingers of one hand.

We really need to print up welcome packets for noobs so they can know all this stuff.  :-)

A bouncy is a bull shit story told at DU, it usually involves a DUmmy interacting with a freeper somewhere in a public setting and they tell how they pwned that freeper. The term bouncy came from a classic DUmmy who posted thread after thread of how she converted freepers, and how everyone in the public place gave her kudos for pwning the freeper. Her name was Bouncy Ball.

There is another term that you may see here that is linked to a bouncy story, "a cop jumped out of the bushes" a DUmmy reported once that a cop jumped out of the bushes so he could annoy the DUmmy's Native American friend.

I may as well tell you about when you see "joooooooosssssssss" posted here, we are making fun of people who don't like the Jews and blame everything on them.

Finally got rid of that pain in the ass Liberal idiot at work

Should have never gone to lunch with this asshole 8 years ago when I started work here.  But I was new and I thought he was buying (he didn't) so I did the right/nice thing.

The minute he launched into 9/11 conspiracy theories and talking about Prescott Bush's ties to Hitler I should have walked away.  But I thought maybe if I reason with this guy, show him the facts he'd come around.  He didn't.  It's like it just encouraged him to act and say even nuttier things.

When he came by gloating about Obama in 2008 I wanted to punch him...but in the past he'd dropped hints he was in tight with our manager so I didn't.

Got a little revenge in 2010 with the mid term elections...but to this day you can't convince me it wasn't him that slashed "ASSHOLE" across the hood of my car...though the cops said otherwise.

The last election and his ignorance of the Constitution were the final straws...so when I saw him walking by my cubicle...I clicked on a link from Drudge about that whack job Alex Jones saying the shooting at Sandy Hook was a hoax.  He went ballistic and said our friendship was over as he went storming down the hall.

I just smiled.
