The mechanic at the garage told him that and how much it would cost, DD. You don't think a dummie is gonna do something like open the hood of their car, do you?
Now having said that... I haven't worked on a car, outside of changing breaks or something like that, since they started putting all that computer shit and vacuum hoses on it. There is just waaay too much shit on engines now that you can screw up and I just don't have the time to fool with it. It's just easier... and usually cheaper in the long run... to take it up the street to the garage and let them fix it.
I'm just getting too damned old to bend over a car and everything in there is so tight now.
True, I doubt a DUmmie would know the difference between a radiator cap and a dipstick, much less where to find them.
I thought I'd have the same problem when I did fleet maintenance for our trucking company, when the older carburated trucks were being replaced with the newer fuel injected ones. As soon as I figured out which sensor did what, I could troubleshoot a problem as good as the scanner would. (OBD I). But still, I prefer the older iron, more underhood space, fewer wires, (more hoses, though).
As far as age, you are younger than I am, boy! If you are "too old to bend over a car", buy, rent, or borrow a lift. (My brother has one in his shop, and as a bonus, the shop is heated, too! It's BYOF, Bring Your Own Firewood).

Besides, I hate paying some zit-faced greasemonkey $80/hour to do something I can do myself. The only time my vehicles go to the shop are for state inspections, wheel alignments, and recalls.
