trying to find a storage solution for drill bits & driver heads

I've got lots of drill bits of various types, and driver heads, but the cases they come in are cheap pieces of crap that have busted over time. I got a nice bit index case for my 'traditional' shank bits for christmas, but I've also got a ton of quick-change shanks. I was thinking this was a nice solution:

But I just want the roll mat (or case, or whatever). I don't need any more bits, got a pantload of them.

Anyway, if anybody knows where to buy something like that, I'd be grateful

1. We use one of those old plastic roll up things bought off TV years ago..

I'm trying to find a picture on the google, seems to be a lot of pouches for sale, but this thing is made of rigid plastic... I'll keep looking.

edit: found it http://www.asseenontv.com/roll-and-store/detail.php?p=355714

I don't know about the quality, but the older ones we have are pretty durable.

2. I like Dewalt's plastic cases for drill bits

They're heavier duty than most, and have a convenient and effective slide lock.

Don't know if you can find them empty, though.

And I'm like you...I don't need ANY more drill bits or driver heads.

3. Less organized, but a tall pill bottle works great.

Like the one on the left. Maybe 4" tall, or even taller. You can find them on eBay, but I bet your local RX might even sell you one - or give it to you for free. They're not unbreakable, but they're pretty sturdy, Plus you can see into them without the need to open it.

4. I use something like this.

Get them from Kmart for about $10. Plenty of compartments for all kinds of bits and drivers.

I built a rack that holds 8 boxes.

For soft cases you might want to try a sporting goods store. they sell soft ammo cases that might work for your needs.

5. In my shop, I just use about a 1' length of 4X4 scrap.

Drill a hole in it with the drill bit I want to store.

Unchuck it, stick it in that hole where it fits snugly, and them move on to the next one.

This works great for The Shop, much better than the plastic cases, but is too awkward to carry around for a mobile tool set.

I have an old Black&Decker folding plastic case that has lasted for over 10 years, and is easy to use, but it came with a set of drills.

I dunno.

I have lots and lots of drill bits.

Some of them are pretty old.

When done using one, I just put it back into the package in which it was sold.

Am I perhaps weird?

I use the plastic shell holder trays that come free inside a box of ammunition for holding various bits , burrs and etc.

Of course , I'm a cheapskate.  :-)

If you've got a bunch of drill bits with a 3/8th shank, drill a bunch of 3/8 holes in a piece of wood.  Problem solved.

This guy can't even figure out what to do with his own money, but I guarantee he's got a plan for yours.

I was thinking he has a thick head (most DUmmies do) he can just put a few holes in his head and will never forget where he left them again.

My solution is simpler -

get a tool chest, and go to an office supply store and buy a blank car magnet. Put it in one of the the drawers magnet side up. Arrange your bits as you wish, and they'll stay neatly in place.
