In the "You Own It" thread, I mentioned that I was going to be attending a reunion party of an old defunct papermill.  I was leery of the loads of union people that would be there, now working at Walmart or somesuch.
SO, we're standing around with our beers, and someone mentioned the union.  It all then came gushing out, the hatred and contempt for the UPIU (united paperworkers Int'l union).  They sucked the wages out of the paychecks, and gave nothing back.  Defended the deadwood and drunks, and ignored legitimate complaints.

So Wasp, I never did punch anyone in the nuts.   :-)  I just stood and listened politely.

One of the proposals that was defeated would have defined a person who is taking care of any family member that is collecting any sort of state or federal benefits as a unionized health care provider, subjecting them to union dues.

Oh, I remember that now!  Talk about outrageous overreach!  That may just have sown the seeds.

Yeah, what Karin said, too.  Overreaching like that sure didn't help the union cause, I guess it's hard for a hog to look up when its head is deep in the trough.

In a related story, Omaha Steve Dawes was taken into custody at the Cornhusker Road overpass on US Hwy 75 this morning, on a charge of Obstructing Traffic.

In an exclusive interview, Bellevue Police Captain Mark Elbert said, "It appears Mr. Dawes was trying to commit suicide, but couldn't hoist his fat (expletive deleted) over the guardrail." According to Elbert, Dawes has been unable to make a statement to police, as he hasn't stopped crying since being taken into custody. "We have only been able to distinguish a few words. Mostly he sobs 'Why, why?' over and over again."

Stay tuned for updates on this story.

That's a whole lotta protest/on strike signs.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Right-to-work legislation in Michigan: Thousands could mass for rallies at Capitol - Numbers needed!

Right-to-work legislation in Michigan: Thousands could mass for rallies at Capitol
By Paul Egan
Detroit Free Press Lansing Bureau

LANSING -- Unions spent Friday organizing civil disobedience training and staffing phone banks to urge members to be at the Capitol on Tuesday for what could be one of the largest demonstrations the state's seat of government has seen in decades.

Backers and opponents of a right-to-work law in Michigan said they are planning to show their strength -- predictions of 7,000 demonstrators or more, including hundreds from other states -- as the Legislature prepares to complete its fast-track consideration of a package of bills that would make the lightning-rod issue the law.

Gov. Rick Snyder already has said he will sign the bills when they hit his desk, possibly Tuesday.

What happens in Michigan, considered the birthplace of the American organized labor movement, is being watched across the country and could prove to be a litmus test of sorts for unions and their once Teflon influence.

"On a scale of one to 10, this is an 11," said former U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer, now business development representative with the Michigan Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust.

"This is a direct affront to organized labor and its members. It's a game-changer."

Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

by the failure of Proposal 2 to put collective bargaining rights into the state constitution.

Why is it fair to extend rights to certain people and not others?

Sounds kinda racisty fascist to me.  You idiots enjoy owning slaves, or what?

Maybe there is hope after all. Maybe it's the local and state-level governments that may yet save us.

Hope springs eternal, and God is Good.

I have always questioned our country's collective sanity & this event really doesn't help.  Mich. easily voted Obumbles back in & then does this???? Talk about your split personality.
