Response to sagetea (Original post)Thu Dec 6, 2012, 05:02 PMSalmonChantedEvening (25,736 posts) 16. Now we're both crying. *hugs*I'm so sorry about your brother, Sagetea. I know that shock all too well. When Dad passed, it was right in front of my brother and Mom. I sat on the stairs and watched in stunned silence as the paramedics did what they could, until it became clear that nothing could be done. We go through life never knowing how much what we say and do impacts the lives of others. I do now. Thank you, and all of DU. The hundreds of posts asking me to stay, the private messages I've been sent, and the posts from friends on FB already had me considering my actions hasty to say the least. I apologize for the pain they have caused you to live over again. I know I couldn't have guessed the particulars, but it looks like I have underestimated what a weekly dose of silly and aww can do for people. What happened Sunday was, as many have guessed, a tipping point. Several things, many not DU-related, have been going on, and this hit me hard, and pushed all the pieces over at once. If I could have foreseen the reaction, I would have never posted that pic. I use Sundays here as more than just a thank you note, it's a weekly cleaning of the head, and time saying hello to people I truly love, yourself so very included. Thank you for the letter. Shall we say Sunday around 6 AM? OK 9, you're in Nevada. Love Always Bob/SCE

Response to Atman (Original post)Wed Dec 5, 2012, 09:22 PM femrap (13,300 posts) 13. For all who wantLast edited Wed Dec 5, 2012, 09:25 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)to know, one of SalmonEnchantedEvenings friends (Patiod) emailed me about my objections to the Superman comic that appeared on Sunday's Lolz Cats. So here you go. This is what Patiod (Bob's friend) wrote me and my response. I have never emailed Bob. He wrote me a not so nice one. I deleted it. And if anyone wants to email me about my reaction to the Superman comment, I won't respond so save your tender typing fingers. Bob wrote me and told me that 'You own this.' I did not respond. So now you have all the words, pictures, etc. And maybe you'll understand why I reacted as I did. Or not. I don't care. You can all put me on Ignore and go merrily along with your lives. Thank you, Atman, for your thread. And I am glad to see that Bob is getting all the attention he needs. To femrap: > I just saw that in the Sunday LOLz thread, you implied that my friend Bob (also known as SalmonchantedEvening) is probably not really a nice guy. > > Here's the thing: I know Bob in real life. He and I met because we realized (via DU) that we had both attended the same high school, and had moved back to the homes we grew up in to take care of an aging, immobile parent (his mom, my dad). > > He's also a Facebook friend, and he posts daily on a wide variety of Progressive issues, including lots of really positive feminist messages. I know men who profess to be feminists who are actually passive-aggressive about women. That's not him. Years and years of Facebook posts, and none belie so much as a shred of misogyny. Misanthropy? Absolutely - lots of "I Hate the General Public" posts, but you would expect that from someone who also holds down a job serving the general public. > > He's a sincerely good-hearted, truly Progressive guy. > > Your post about the Superman cartoon was completely off-base, and this is coming from a woman who has no problem telling her (male) partner's (male) friends why the expressions "man up" and "grow a pair" are both insulting and stupid. I didn't find the cartoon all that funny, either, but you have to be looking really, really, hard to find it offensive. > > My suggestion is that you do exactly what you said - put Bob on "ignore", which will spare you from any more potential Sunday LOLz outrage, and spare those of us who know and respect Bob from your uninformed guesses about his character. > > - Pattie O'Donnell/patiod > > Pattie, I have been looking at Bob's animal photos for a while. In fact, I look forward to seeing them. I've even forwarded them to a couple of friends. I like animals better than most people....I'm sure you can see why. This is the first time I saw a comic in his post NOT about animals. I was like WTF. As I said it stuck out like a sore thumb. I just didn't get it. It seemed so out of place. When I saw it, all I thought of was 'SPLAT' like the people who jumped from the WTC. That is what it triggered in me. That is how I felt. It was not funny to me. I can still hear that horrible sound. If you and Bob can't handle my experience to the comic then I suggest you put ME on IGNORE. Would it be too much to ask that Bob consider, 'Gee, I never thought of how that comic might appear to others. Humor can be a really emotional issue.' No apology needed. Just the realization that others may view comics/humor in a very different light. I, too, have had to move back to my hometown to care for my 85 year-old mother. And aren't you lucky to have a friend with whom to share the experience of parent-caring. This past year has been simply torturous for me. And none of my aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. have lifted a finger to even bring a plate of home-cooked food to their sister/aunt. And one of them lives right across the street, while two live within two blocks. It has been a real eye-opener for me. I don't care about Facebook, Twitter, etc. I don't have time for social media. I just get the news from a couple of sites and make comments when something grabs my attention. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go get Xmas decorations from my mother's garage and try to make her home look somewhat festive. My tiny apartment is still filled with stacks of unopened boxes, empty shelves, and a sofa covered with papers and mail. There will be no Xmas decor at my place. I'm too damn tired. And btw, my mother's home is very small with only two bedrooms and the second one is used for sewing, the computer, and yes, an old typewriter which she still uses because of her tremors....just so you understand why I have an apartment. I see no reason for further communication. femrap. eta: for clarification
Apparently the special snowflake recieved enough stroking to bring it back to the hive.
Imagine the outrage if Superman had given Lois Lane an Easy Bake Oven.
Allow me to give YOU the stroking YOU deserve for putting this image in my mind, and me all out of bleach. Bad Dog, indeed! There now, I feel so much more relieved.
