e-cig help
« on: November 30, 2012, 03:35:11 PM »
My wife used to smoke Virginia Slims Menthol 120 Luxury Lights. When the economy went down she switched to roll your own, but she complained that all of the tobacco she tried was too harsh. Then she switched to PallMall Menthol 100s.

She's tried to quit repeatedly without success. She recently asked me about e-cigs. I guess she thinks I'm the perfect one to ask since I don't smoke. She bought a disposable one from a convenience store a couple of weeks back and thought it was okay.

I've went to several e-cig websites and forums and still don't have a clue. Partly, I guess, because I'm a nonsmoker, but mostly because I don't know what in the hell I'm look at or for.

If anyone could answer the below questions it would be much appreciated.

How do they compare in price to real cigarettes?
What all is needed to be purchased?
What would be the closest to Virginia Slim Menthol?

I was using the e-Go type cigarette but had trouble keeping it providing vapor.  Maybe it was operator error, but as I'm the operator I need something I can work.

I recently changed to the Blu brand of e-cigarette and find it much easier to use and has a longer battery life. I also like that I can just pick up the cartridges that I want instead of messing with re-filling the e-Go.

Cost on the Blu is running about half of what I spent on traditional cigarettes.  As for taste, I found regular strength to be more than I wanted and have bought their version of "lights."  I smoke non-menthols so can't really answer what would be comparable to her favorite brand.

There are e-cigarette forums.  Perhaps someone on one of them would have an ideal

I've been vaping for a few years, now, since NY increased taxes on them so much.  Badcat also vapes, if you want to drop him a PM and get his take.  Everyone's got an opinion, and a strong one at that!  So, it's always hard to wade through.  But first, this is the website I always use now.  http://www.valuevapor.com   The prices are the best, and the shipping is fast!  They must live next door to the post office.  As soon as you hit enter, it seems they bag it up and send it out right then.

I use the Ego Joye, and have for some time now.  I couldn't get the Blu to work as a viable substitute.

At the value vapor site, starter kits run from $40 to $45.  The little vials of liquid (which add the flavor and the nicotine) are about $5, and last 3 weeks or so.  The atomizers (one of the components, that turns the liquid into vapor) needs replacing about once a month, and those are also about $5.  The top end piece, the tip that you suck in on, is called a cartridge.  This is what you drip about 7 drops of liquid into (into a stuffing like material).  These last for about a month, I think, and cost 50 cents.  So, once you have all the equipment, it's super cheap.

I was able to cut cig smoking in half.  About 40 hours is how long I can make a pack last, using the vaporing as a substitute.  If I had more willpower, I could improve those numbers, and many people substitute completely.

There is a forum I've frequented, while trying to wade through.  The new members forum is good for encouragement and add'l info.

P.S.  Everyone's got an opinion on flavors, too, and it's entirely subjective of course.  I use Whiskey and Coffee.  Menthol flavors are available, she may have to experiment.  I do recommend using the Dekang brand.  I once went "off brand" and it tasted like melted plastic.   :p  Dekang is always good, though.

The reason I like the ego joye over the blu, is that I get a good plume of rich vapor that feels and looks like smoke (but does not smell in the least).  The blu was weak little puffs.

I have a friend that will only use these when it comes to e-cigs.

Finiti

I don't smoke, so I have no clue.

Hi Rob, based on your link I've decided to try something new.  The ecig critic couldn't say enough good things about the V2.  I went ahead and ordered the starter kit.  It will count as a Christmas present for my husband, and I will mooch off half of it.  It comes with 2 batteries.  Thanks for the link!
