As everyone knows, this is the time of year when solicitations for charitable donations are at a peak. We have always donated generously to causes we consider worthy, in addtion to our regular contributions to our parish. I have a stack of 12 requests sitting on my desk now, and I'm about to sit down and send back the donation envelopes with the following letter enclosed:
Dear XXXXX,
While I understand that we have donated in the past, we will be unable to do so for the foreseeable future. As a result of the recent Presidential election, we must supplement our savings in order to afford the higher taxes, increased health insurance premiums and potential job loss due that will result from America's decision. Given this, we are immediately ceasing all charitable donations, with the exception of our regular donations to our home parish and to post-abortion support groups that will now need more help than ever, due to the implementation of taxpayer funded abortion up to the moment of full-term birth.
I expect this will have little effect on your charity, since the Administration is committed to ensuring that all residents, both legal and illegal, have everything they need or want, paid for by my taxes. In fact, I look forward to the announcement that charities around the country are closing down, as they are no longer needed.
For questions or concerns, please contact the following:
Barack Obama
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20500
For telephone soliciters, it's much shorter - "You'll need to call the White House, because due to Obama's re-election, I'm not going to have any money to donate. Please remove my number from your call list."
I have a number of friends that are doing the same thing...it won't make a difference, but it makes a point.
