Posting this here, because I want the DUmmies to see it
« on: November 10, 2012, 09:30:22 AM »
As everyone knows, this is the time of year when solicitations for charitable donations are at a peak.  We have always donated generously to causes we consider worthy, in addtion to our regular contributions to our parish.  I have a stack of 12 requests sitting  on my desk now, and I'm about to sit down and send back the donation envelopes with the following letter enclosed:

Dear XXXXX,

While I understand that we have donated in the past, we will be unable to do so for the foreseeable future.  As a result of the recent Presidential election, we must supplement our savings in order to afford the higher taxes, increased health insurance premiums and potential job loss due that will result from America's decision.  Given this, we are immediately ceasing all charitable donations, with the exception of our regular donations to our home parish and to post-abortion support groups that will now need more help than ever, due to the implementation of taxpayer funded abortion up to the moment of full-term birth.

I expect this will have little effect on your charity, since the Administration is committed to ensuring that all residents, both legal and illegal, have everything they need or want, paid for by my taxes. In fact, I look forward to the announcement that charities around the country are closing down, as they are no longer needed.

For questions or concerns, please contact the following:

Barack Obama
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, DC  20500

For telephone soliciters, it's much shorter - "You'll need to call the White House, because due to Obama's re-election, I'm not going to have any money to donate.  Please remove my number from your call list."

I have a number of friends that are doing the same thing...it won't make a difference, but it makes a point.

Damn, that is awesome.

Great work!

I am still going to try and donate to my charities. I have a Charity Fund, and it is going good so far. Let's hope it stays that way.

I wouldn't dream of judging what anyone else chooses to do, but for my family, we're stopping cold turkey.  I'm not going to continue to financially support the very people that, in my opinion, have voted for the continuing destruction of this country.  I'm not going to send my hard earned money to people that are simultaneously sucking at the government teat, getting milk provided by me, and also playing poor with charities so that they can obtain more unearned and undeserved benefit.

I know you aren't judging. The only way I can donate is through the fund. If it was my own pay, I wouldn't do it either. I am glad that I have the fund to fall back on.

That's a really well written letter.

This is something that's very difficult for me, my Parents raised me to always be charitable and I've always done that. As of right now I plan to only give to my Church and St. Jude Hospital. The Holidays are coming around and we usually donate our free turkey and because of the cost we usually pick up about 5 chickens and 3 hens, box potatoes, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, box pie crust and canned filling to donate to the food bank at Church and town food banks. I'm re-thinking doing that now and maybe the left needs to step-up and do what they preach to others to do. I'm starting to wonder if conservatives in a way have contributed to the selfishness and entitlement that our society has become, has always giving to others really helped? or hurt?

BTW, has anyone heard of other conservatives talking about doing this also?

I feel you, as it's hard for me as well.  But as I conservative, I don't want to put myself in the position of having to depend on the government to help my family, so for us, the prudent choice is "charity begins at home" for the foreseeable future.

And it isn't just the government that is being taken in by the takers...my son, as part of his annual service hour requirement at his Catholic high school, works at a food bank every month.  They don't turn anyone away, and I'm always shocked by what I see when I go to pick him up. While the majority of people taking food bags obviously are in need, there are many there in late model year SUVs, kids with iPhones, mom in high end sneakers and loaded down with jewelry.

The food banks around here had to implement a system where they all work together to keep people from going from place to place taking food and not leaving enough for others. They put 1 woman on a list where none of the food banks will let her in, she went to 1 place and was told she could only take a few cans of tuna, she started screaming and scared the little old lady volunteers and she took all the cans of tuna.

Years ago I had a friend, very devoted Catholic and democrat,  who was converted after witnessing the same thing with the final nail being when the guy in a new Caddy popped the trunk and asked him to put the stuff in for him.  Just rubbed him the wrong way he said being treated like that.  He still goes to Mass and donates time but no longer votes democrat.

I have been on both sides of the fence when it comes to charity and it does indeed begin at home but that said I have a hard time denying help to an innocent child because of a parents politics.  I am a big fan of The Salvation Army.  I am not a fan of The Red Cross.

One of the greatest achievements of the Allinskyites.  Making greedy common thugs somehow noble while smearing productive entrepreneurs who contribute to the national wealth as greedy monsters.

I read your letter, and my heart just sank.

I absolutely understand where you are coming from, and I think my husband and I will also start cutting out non-essentials to prepare for the financial apocalypse I fear is coming our way.

However, I am on the board of directors of our local animal shelter, and I fear that if enough people share your feelings about charitable contributions, we may have to close our doors. Since dogs and cats can't vote we can't expect to get any Obama-bucks!

Our community is extremely fortunate to have a state-of-the-art, award winning, no-kill animal shelter, and it would be a shame if it were lost, because of Obama.

I have to say that this is why I've saved assistance only when I personally know of a case where it is needed. I've known too many people who, for example, receive WIC for baby formula and then go to every church they know gives out free formula to get extra to sell. I'm so cynical from the abuses I've seen, I never will give anything to a big charity because I can't determine if those receiving the help really need it. The exception is specialized charities like those for disabled vets or disabled folks in general where the disability usually does preclude one from being a functional member of society. It can't get to regular lazy asses so I feel comfortable its going to people who really need it.

Don't worry hon, all my charitable giving this year will be going to organizations like yours.

As for people, they voted for this...they can starve in dark for all I care.
Help keep America beautiful...deface a liberal.

The Democrat and Republican parties are simply the left and right wings of the same bird of prey.

The road to freedom is paved with dead liberals.

Thanks, Bad Cat.

I've worked with Christian non-profits, dedicated to helping people. We gave them "stuff," and in return, they just gave us more people with their hands out.

Our organization won't place an animal til it's been spayed or neutered. Wish that principle could be applied to human services charities--terrible as that sounds . . .

I asked God for guidance as far as my decision on not donating to food banks, at Mass tonight they mentioned being charitable to those who need it, so there goes my personal boycott of donating to food banks.

I totally understand and respect that decision...but I have to look out for my family first.

Definitely, if I'm not able to afford it then it's fine, if I can afford it then I have to do something.
