Sniffle
« on: November 01, 2012, 08:27:26 PM »
We received this email today from our daughter's (she is our youngest, 13) math teacher. He copied the principal and vice principal.  I swear, my husband and I both wonder how we ended up with the best kids in the world.

Our older daughter just got a job at Petco, is volunteering at animal adoption weekends and going to college full time in Florida (she voted for the first time a few days ago...for Romney).  Our son is still back home after graduating from college with an Industrial Design degree, he can't find a friggen job.  He is actively looking for jobs everyday. He is applying to jobs out of state as well.  He has done some contract work but I know he is a bit depressed. He has had two internships (GE and Little Tikes) but no where is hiring full time for kids just out of college. I guarantee that these kids aren't counted as unemployed. No full time jobs to be let go from to be counted.

He went and voted yesterday with my husband, I would never ask him who he voted for (he isn't as open about stuff like that as my older daughter is). I wonder if he thought about the fact that he (as well as many of his fellow graduates) can't find a job in their field.

Anyway, here is the email.

Subject: Email from school about your child

Dear Mr./Mrs. B****,

I'm writing to let you know that you have an amazing child! Sarah has been so far one of the best students I've ever had the privilege to teach. She always meets expectations and goes above and beyond to show leadership, character, and pride.

Speaking on behalf of all the teachers of team 8C, as she is doing well in all of her classes, that we are so proud of Sarah for all the diligent work and awesome personality. You should be very proud of her, too, as she continues to thrive in school and later in life. I'm confident Sarah will have a huge and bright future ahead.

Thank you for all you do at home to teach, encourage, and motivate your child so that our job here is 1000 times easier.

Best,

Vincent ******

That's wonderful!  I'm sure you've given her a big hug.  Very nice of the teacher to take the time to write that.

Something to be proud of. Yo ucan look back and remember how good it was when you got that letter and think that you didn't ever get a letter from the City DA about your kid going to court over a felony.

BEG, what kind of Industrial Design degree does your son have? I may know someone in a related field.........

That's wonderful, BEG!  You do have great kids.

I remember my Algebra teacher sent a note home, remarking about my dramatic turnaround in performance.  It made me feel so good.

BEG,

How delightful for you to receive such an acknowledgement for your excellent parenting. It's not like you needed it but what a nice surprise when others notice.

And, clearly, your exceptional daughter does not need it either. Her motivation isn't self-aggrandizement and, thus, feels any reward is unwarranted and perhaps even embarrassing or silly.

How refreshing! Congratulations to you and your family.

No teacher, at any point of my life, would have ever written a note like that to my parents. I had no motivation, no interest and thought I was stupid. I was a social butterfly in school, all I cared about was my boyfriend and going out with my fiends on the weekends.  My milkshake brought all the boys to the yard.  :-*
