No more Vodka Martinis? Shaken or Stirred for 007.

Looks like at least for this new Bond movie that the world famous Vodka Martini is going to be replaced by beer.

Daniel Craig defends Heineken as 007's new drink

Daniel Craig has defended the Heineken product placement in "Skyfall," crediting the beer company with helping to finance the new James Bond movie. I call BS on the reasons given but I don't make the movies.

Fans and critics alike were upset when producers announced 007 would be swapping his signature martinis for lager, claiming a sacred tradition had been broken. However, Craig insists the latest blockbuster could not have been made without the funds generated by the marketing deal with the Dutch brand.

He tells Vanity Fair magazine, "A movie like this costs $118 million to make -- it's the nature of it, the size of the movie. And it costs another $200 million to sell it. So the $200 million has to come from somewhere. Product placement, whichever way you look at it, whether you like it or you think it's disgusting or whatever, it's what it is. Heineken gave us a ton of money for there to be Heineken in a shot in a bar ... Without them, the movie couldn't get sold."

I'm not a die hard Bond fan, but enjoy the movies.  My husband is the Bond fan in the family.  I never pay attention to the alcoholic drink he has in his hand.  I watch the movies for the action.  My husband pays attention to the watch Bond is wearing and drools over it.  It's usually something ridiculous, like $20,000 price tag ridiculous, so he can dream... lol

The thing is that its been a staple of the character going back to the beginning and to make a change like this is like making Superman wear orange instead of blue for his suit. Still its just this one movie and if Heiniken wants to blow all that cash its their money but I doubt that many guys are switching brews. Most guys that watch Bond movies probably have never tasted a martini and I myself didn't till last year when I helped out a movie event put on by my friend Bruce Crawford when he showed "The Spy Who Loved Me" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bond films and to raise money for charity that night.

Has your husband been to where they have filmed any of the movies? I was able to go to two of the locations years ago. I was in Venice where they filmed the chase scene for Moonraker in Venice and I think some of the scenes for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and many other movies. it's called Piaza San Marco or St Marks Square. I have also been to Las Vegas and stood in the middle of the street where they filmed the chase scene for "Diamonds Are Forever. Its easy to do now because the street is now one long brick covered sidewalk with a digital screen overhead.

We live in Las Vegas, so yes... only Vegas.  :)

We would love to go to Italy at some point.  Definitely need to save a lot of money for something amazing like that.

In regards to beers... my husband drinks those fancy beers.  Stone IPA or something.  Sierra Nevada.  No Heinekins (however you spell it) or Bud light, Miller, etc.  That stuff doesn't come in our home.

Personally, I think Craig is one of the better Bonds, surpassed only by Connery.  A little pain, a little rough around the edges, but make no mistake, this is a man not to be trifled with.

The only reason Bond started with the vodka martini was because of product placement by Smirnoff. Don't bitch that they're taking more money to pimp something else.

Actually, Ian Fleming made it his signature drink in the first book, "Casino Royale." But it was gin, vodka, with a twist of lemon. It was called a "Vesper" after his first love and double agent, Vesper Lynn.

But "shaken not stirred" is in our vernacular!  This is just wrong.  But I'm a traditionalist.

Not enough to keep me from seeing Skyfall, though. I'm a Bond traditionalist, too.

Now, if he never says "Bond. James Bond." again, that's a different story.

I forgot to add I was able to get two movie posters autographed last year at the event and a week later at Wonderfest. Richard Kiel who played Jaws in The Spy Who Loved me and Moonraker was nice enough to autograph my posters and the next week I got Caroline Munroe to sign the Spy Who Loved Me poster and a toy replica of the helicopter she flew in the movie. She was very nice. If i had been smart I should have tried to locate a copy of the Adam Any Video she did and had her sign that as well.
