Assange: US has “given tacit approval for attacks on embassies” [View all]
By Toby Manhire
Published on September 13, 2012

... whatever you think of the WikiLeaks founder, who is currently sheltering in the Ecuadorean embassy in London, it’s hard to fathom his latest tweeted statement, in which he asserts some sort of link between the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, in which the American ambassador was killed, and his own treatment.

The tweet: There's a reliable resouce for ya.
By the US accepting the UK siege on the Ecuadorian embassy in London it gave tacit approval for attacks on embassies around the world ...
Loyal Assange supporter Jemima Khan had the best response:
That last @wikileaks tweet manages to be both absurd and shockingly offensive & I say that as a wikileaks supporter ...
http://www.listener.co.nz/commentary/the-internaut/assange-us-has-given-tacit-approval-for-attacks-on-embassies/
Worked up a good fire.
More later.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

148 responses before the *poof*, but there was this in the meta forum.  Edited to add that links to hidden 'meta' forum posts are not included

Shouldn't it be a TOS violation to start an OP that is an outright lie?

The poster created an OP attributing a quote to someone falsely. It is a lie in every sense of the word and the fact that someone else spread it is not a reasonable excuse to use DU to further disseminate the lie.

I am of the opinion that it should be an automatic lock and a warning. DU does, justifiably, have some reputation to protect here and being the source of a lie does not reflect well on any of us.

On edit; The OP did not "create" the headline. He or she merely passed on a false claim and continued to push it knowing that it was false.
There was some discussion about the headline itself and whether/not it should be allowed since it was said to be the actual headline.  And then came the results of the 'jury'

13. The offending OP has been hidden, here are the jury results:

At Thu Sep 13, 2012, 10:41 AM an alert was sent on the following post:

Assange: US has “given tacit approval for attacks on embassies”

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021330806

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See <a href="http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=aboutus#communitystandards" target="_blank">Community Standards[/url].)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

The claim that Assange said this is a lie and has already lead many people in the thread to wrongfully believe this. This is nothing more than a deceitful attempt at character assasination.

This post (and similar ones by the same poster I should add) also violates TOS according to the following paragraph:

"Don't go overboard with the crazy talk.
Democratic Underground is not intended to be a platform for kooks and crackpots peddling paranoid fantasies with little or no basis in fact."

JURY RESULTS

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Sep 13, 2012, 10:56 AM, and the Jury voted 4-2 to HIDE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: While I cannot but agree that OP is "kook and crackpot peddling paranoid fantasies" it's better to leave it for number of reasons.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Maybe I'm not up the latest about Wikileaks, but this didn't seem that hurtful to me, nor intended to be hurtful. It's just a news report. If it's inaccurate, then it's easy enough to point that, or post another thread to rebut it with the truth, whatever that is.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: s4p really jumped the shark on this one. These anti-Assange folks are going to desperate lengths to try to smear him, it seems. It's borderline OCD -- someone needs to see a shrink, methinks.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given

I hate it when they say "methinks"

Can't insult the prophet of WiLi leaks.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

So no deceitful attempts at character assasination of someone they adore.  Got it.   :rotf:

No surprise here.  In the secret meta forum DUmmyStruggler (author of the DU OP) whines about his thread being locked.  There is nothing interesting in the post, just a rehash of the original with what he/she/Pat thinks justifies the OP, and the jury decision that locked the thread (posted here earlier).  I love it when they feel discriminated against.

Funny how they LOVED his ass when he was trashing our military.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

The hive mentality of the DUmp is what 0bama will have the flexibility to change in his second term. Obama would fit right in there.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

*corrected to reflect reality*

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.
