Dodgeball, kickball, tag, red-rover send Jimmy over, etc. went away before recess departed. "Jimmy might not get picked, and his self-esteem will be crushed', or "Someone might throw the ball too hard and Jimmy might get hurt", and so on. Can't choose two team captains, then have them pick their teams - Jimmy might get picked last. Then recess disappeared.
And now some people don't understand why so many kids are overweight.
Though recess is very important, run off excess energy. those games were important. it helped with teamwork, bulit self-esteem and confidence, taught strategy and helped with memory(shipwreck). I wasn't the biggest kid on the block, but because I was small, i was sometimes quicker and used strategy. Unfortunately, too many parents are on the computer, instead of doing things with their kids.
