Canvassing in Virginia - 120 doors today + a funny story

I knocked on 120 doors in 2 shifts today. Mostly positive in the morning - a bastion of the "Myth of Net Worth" later.

The Apartment people like The President. West End Richmond - probably below water - single households not so much.

I walk up to the this house that is clearly being worked on - the initial phase.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

I introduce myself and why I am there.

They are in pizza lunch mode and one guy from the fireplace says (in a dickish way) "Man! YOU knocked on the wrong door". I shot a glare through the room at him - no idea if he got it but I didn't hear anything from him the rest of the time.

I have two names on my list and both of them are there. The female is introduced and wierdly thinks she can stare me down hands on hips and all - this is rare even with Obama haters (I got several thanks about "Doing your part" in a not-supporting-The-President neighborhood).

I repeat my name and why I am there. The air of awe of her was noticeable. I maintained eye contact and she actually softened and smiled.

Enter the scene the guy who looks remarkably like Javier Bardem in "No Country for Old Men", a hairstyle would have made it dead on.

"We are Pennsylvania voters." they say.

Okay....then it hits me AND I don't say it - the list I have is from registered voters IN Virginia. They must have registered to vote in Va when they bought the property. I hope that they find out WAAAAY too late in Pa that they are no longer registered.

I thanked them for their time.

2. I hate to say it, but right now they are probably registered in both states!

^^only if they're Democrats, which they might, or might not, be.

4. wellllll not exactly not all county clerks send notices to old counties of residence (or at least not in a timely fashion) AND the voter has to volunteer the info on the new voter registration form

it is possible you may have actually ran into the almost mythical 'in person voter fraud' perpetrators

if their new registration wasn't sent to PA they will stay on the rolls indefinitely.

i have worked in the Elections bureau of a County Clerk's office and know of what I speak.

6. As I said above I calculated if I should point this out but didn't.

If they're Republicans, they probably already know this stuff.

It's just Democrats like Nate Lamont's daughter who forget to do this stuff.

The story has a certain bounce to it.  One bong.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

I doubt that too - I suspect the DUmmy had a list of 120 VOTERS. - and in married households, or households with adult children, there will be multiple voters per residence. from the story -

"I have two names on my list and both of them are there"

So, quick math indicates that the total work was probably 5 to 6 hours, divided into two 2 1/2 - 3 hour shifts. That makes sense.

Listen up, DUmmies, it's not voter fraud unless they actually try to vote in both places.

  :panic:

I don't think there's a voter registration mechanism when you purchase real estate.

And Miskie, even if your math is correct, that's still waaaaaaay too much work for a DUmmie.

You are probably correct. I look at a 2 1/2 hour shift as an 'inconvenience' - it doesn't even qualify as work. To a primitive who would rather sit around and post on DU all day, a total of 5 WHOLE HOURS of work in one day is probably regarded as enough to qualify for retirement.

A beautiful synopsis.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.
