Wonder if it ever occurred to them why...since they're the smartest people in the room, the hardest working in the room and the people most likely to cheer for and take government funds...they aren't the ones with the businesses in the 1%. BTW, Charles, this cracked me up:

What the heck a Cree proverb has to do with the 21st century multifaceted society, I don't know. Last I checked, platitudes work fine in very small nomadic societies...modern, cities, towns, suburbs, etc., not so much. Why are they quoting anything from a patriarchal society anyway? Oh, yeah, their the ones who are perfectly fine with women in Egypt becoming 3rd class citizens and living under Sharia law as long as it in no way impacts their lives. But, hey, at least they'll be able to get a new bumper sticker...they can put "Free Egypt" right next to the "Free Tibet" ones and then get all outraged if anyone tries to help either country with so much as a slingshot.

There is not a single business owner in this country who got where they are 100% on their own. For starters, someone gave them an education.

This whole bit about education is especially irksome. None[/i] of the really smart kids I knew in school became smart because of school.

They had to get their startup money from somewhere. Either through their family, friends, or a bank loan.

The funny thing about bank loans is they have supposed to be repaid (with interest).

No one out there created a business without relying on goods and services that were provided in part by my tax dollars.

Do you not get the benefits of those services as well? Do you not get to drive on the roads, have police protection, and so on? I'm guessing you do, even if you contributed less to the funding of those things than others did. Yet, not everyone creates a business despite having access to schools roads, etc.

Listen DUmmie, I worked the swing shift for a little over 2 years. During that time, I also worked side jobs etc. living off what I made on the side and was saving every dime I earned at my regular job plus some. I had a new house, a new pickup and a decent car, all paid for plus over 2 years of above average wages in the bank at age 24/25. THEN the bank loaned me a matching amount that had to be paid back in 6 months time.

 ....and the DUmmies of 42 years ago were just like the DUmmies of today. They were drinking, partying, smoking dope and whinning about, "I want to get ahead like you but I can't get anyone to help me." HELP YOUR DAMN SELF DUMMIES!

...and the old DUmmies of 42 years ago are still whinning about how they were held down by THE MAN....it was their own lazy, stupid ass that held them down.

While people are debating exactly what President Obama was referring to when he said "that," they are overlooking this part:

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back.

The entire argument hinges on this, the notion that people become wealthy and successful and suddenly are off the hook and don't contribute anything in return. Am I missing something? Do businesses not pay a boatload of taxes? Hell, sometimes they help pay for employees to get a better education, and presumably, a better job.

This speech he gave is hardly worth our time. It wasn't meant to appeal to anyone other than people who will vote Obama anyway. As I've said before, he has to know he will not win over actual businesspeople with this argument (except the ones who have pretensions of humanity).
