Socialism? Communism?

I copied this comment from..... http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2012/05/new-film-dreams-from-my-real-father-claims-obamas-real-father-was-commie-frank-marshall-davis-trailer/

By the way, I have been wanting to find just one conservative that knows the definition of socialism and communism.

So, to help the DUmmie out, here is my explanation of the two.

Socialism: 6 of one.

Communism: Half a dozen of the other.

The way I see it, 6 of nothing is equal to half a dozen of nothing...they're equal.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"Socialist" is what a communist claims to be when facts - like the consistent inevitable failure of communism everywhere it's been implemented or the truly heinous body count communists from all parts of the world has racked up in the pursuit of "communist purity" - dawns on the mob he's trying to gin up to toss out freedom in favor of a communist dictatorship.  See also Progressive; Liberal; or Democrat as other linguistic masks Communists will assume as needed.

I been wondering the same, as in some ways they are the same, except for a couple of parts.

Socialism Vs Communism
" Socialism is the idea that the working class, the class that produces the profits, the wealth, the cars, houses, planes, steel, should take over and run things collectively, democratically, for the benefit of the majority (who also "just happen" to be workers too).

Communism is the idea that society should not have classes - exploiters and exploited, oppressors and oppressed, and so on. "

Socialism generally refers to an economic system, while communism refers to both an economic and political system.
Socialism seeks to manage the economy through deliberate and collective social control.
Communism seeks to manage both the economy and the society by ensuring that property is owned collectively, and that control over the distribution of property is centralized in order to achieve both classlessness and statelessness.
Both socialism and communism are based on the principle that the goods and services produced in an economy should be owned publicly, and controlled and planned by a centralized organization. Socialism says that the distribution should take place according to the amount of an individual's production efforts, whilst communism asserts that that goods and services should be distributed among the populace according to individuals' needs.

All this time, and I thought socialism just sounded "nicer" than communism.  :bawl:
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Thus far, American socialism is Russian/Chinese communism minus the dead bodies. Just give Bill Ayers/Obama time.

Socialism has to be forced. It is the stage of Marxism when wealth is still unequally distributed.

Communism is supposed to be voluntary when, after years of being dumbed down by Marxist indoctrination, people have evolved to the point where they simply worship the state.

In practice, the Communist Utopia is the excuse for murder, theft, and anti-civilization of the Socialist State.

Communism is the way Socialism used to be packaged to sell it to stupid people. Now that 'Commie' is a dirty word, they now refer to Socialism as being what Communism actually is 'on paper' (as Communism always devolves into Socialism or worse) . Once again, to sell it to stupid people.

Anyone remember, or hear about, the communism trials of the 50's? I wonder if Obama would be brought up on charges with that?

Socialists and Marxists are monsters who murder millions of their own countrymen.
Socialists lie about the coming bloody purge.
Marxists brag about it.

The best way to avoid being a victim is to shoot the Socialists and Marxists first...cause they will surely come looking for you.

Communism is the idea that society should not have classes - exploiters and exploited, oppressors and oppressed, and so on. "

The irony, of course, is that whenever Communism runs a country, there are indeed classes; The only difference is that, rather than the classes being formed on the basis of how much money someone has, they are formed on the basis of how well- connected to the government someone is.

A socialist is a communist that is outgunned.

Socialism is the belief that the state can alleviate all need and want so long as the right people, invariably the person espusing it believes he is the right person, are in charge.  The socialist will publicly eschew violence and cast anybody who owns anything as the violent villian.  They never admit that there philosophy destroys ingenuity and hard work.

A ommunist is just a socialist that has gotten control of the state.  He uses violence at first to eliminate the old regime and anyone who might side against him, later he uses violence casually to keep the peasants properly terrified.  He doesn't care about the economy as long as he can keep the bellies of the police and the army full.  He will brag about his classless society as he and his friends stand atop the heap wearing only the best tailor made suits.
There comes a time when even good men must run up the black flag of anarchy and slit throats. - H.L. Mencken

Socialism ends with a gun.
Communism starts with a gun.

Really fascism, socialism, and communism are all pretty much the same except for who is running the brutal totalitarian government.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Communism derives from it's root word commune, everyone living together, contributing and sharing equally. Everything is owned and used equally.
Socialism derives from marxism the maxim, from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs.

I think we are dealing more with semantics than actual differences. For instance, Nazi socialism and Russian/Soviet socialism were two peas in the same pod, each one wanting to control the pod itself. If pressed, I'd have to say that "socialism" or "socialist" is more of the technical term of a state where economic activity is controlled heavily, and the degree is dependent on the system in place.

The American constitution is probably the most anti-socialist document in the world now, its principles based in what we would normally call "Libertarian." In extension, humans enact control based on two basic tenets: Economical and social. The degree on outward influences on either tenet defines what part of the political spectrum one may find oneself. In general, the republican party leans more toward economic freedoms (less taxes) and equitable playing fields, while democrats lean toward more economic controls (more taxes) and equitable outcomes. On the social tenet side, republicans have tended to be more controlling in through religious and moral edicts (where "conservative" got its start), while democrats tend to be less controlling of social tenets (where "liberal" has its roots).

This, of course, is a generalization of everything. By the way, a Libertarian would be the one who combines economic freedoms with social freedoms, but also organize through mutual association rather than governmental edict to control actions. This is where a lot of people don't understand the concepts of certain tenets, and it won't change for a long time, though America is about to go through its biggest political change in the next 10 or so years since Reconstruction. This will be one heady trip! I look forward to seeing the DUmpmonkeys howl for awhile.
