Is he aware that California "ain't got no money"?
Good teachers are NEEDED everywhere be it one teaching Math in the lower 48 States or a teacher in Alaska teaching the children of the survival skills of their Ancestors. People in the past had to know some math to build a Kayak to seal hunt, had to know some thing about Geography to find their way back home.
We need teachers that teach what they are skilled in, can get through to the kids that cannot grasp the concept and one must change methods to find a way to interest the kids in a subject that is way over their head written by adult teachers 15 years ago.
Math is perhaps the most important class, one cannot follow a recipe to cook, build a shelter or make clothing without it.
Kids need hands on training in math, the old crap about how to triangulate a pyramid, PHOOY, that will come later. Kids in shop class for carpentry and auto mechanics need to know and can be taught by teachers that throw away the book and show them hands on, then bring back the book later for more information.
Not everyone can grasp math as it is taught unless the person is eased into it with real life situation.
Take the 25 year old job of selling cloth in a store, the clerks knew math------3/8 of a yard for $2.00 a yard.
Today the clerks have tecnology that calucalutes that for them. We do run into cashiers that cannot make change unless the register tells them what to give.
We NEED teachers that can and will teach the kids on the level of the child what they need to know. Screw the text books, the kids will need them someday but to start out they need the hand, eye visuals they get playing games.
