Coalition Talks Stall, Greece Faces "Moment Of Truth"

(Reuters) - Greek political leaders on Sunday ignored a final plea from the president to form a coalition government to avert a repeat election, pushing the debt-stricken nation closer to bankruptcy and a possible exit from the euro zone.

Leaders of the three biggest parties met at the presidential mansion for a final attempt to bridge their differences, but the talks quickly hit an impasse as they traded accusations on a deeply unpopular bailout package tied to harsh spending cuts.

Conservative leader Antonis Samaras, who finished first in last week's election, pinned the blame on the far-left SYRIZA party, which flatly rules out backing a pro-bailout coalition with Samaras's New Democracy and Socialist PASOK parties.

"They are not asking for agreement, they are asking us to be their partners in crime and we will not be their accomplices," said Alexis Tsipras, who has become an overnight sensation since leading SYRIZA to a surprise second place in the vote.

They had a dumbass RW Greek economist on accusing the Leftist anti-austerity parties of having no alternatives and similar crap, and they did not have anyone on to respond to that crap!

It sad that people will suffer for this.
But Greece will collapse and the fall will be devastating. So will Spain. France will go in a few years.
And the libs will have no one to blame but themselves.

Europe will turn to dictators like they always have. I really don't feel like saving their a$$ again. Sorry.

I won`t pretend to know all the ins and outs of European economic and social(ist) society but is it fair to say they have been allowed to dabble in what they have for far too long because of American subsidies regarding our defense shield.

The Germans have pretty much told them in no uncertain terms that it's 'No austerity = no money," the Greek Left can posture all they want to but in six weeks the cupboard is bare.  While the Germans don't want to crash the Euro and might make some degree of accommodation to prevent that, they also really, really hate looking like anyone's patsies, especially the Med countries which they pretty much regard as happy-go-lucky irreponsible morons.

I'll bet the British, Norwegians, and Swiss are very happy they never fell into the euro.

They probably realised that such would be an impossible task and decided to put off the invasion until a few more gleeks snuff it on their own accord.

Too true.  Given that statement, you know a lot more than most do.

Take away the military defense the USA provides Western Europe and they wouldn't have the money to fund these social programs.  Same with Canada.  They'd either have to start shifting a bunch of money to their own defense or start learning Russian and/or Chinese.

Well the Greeks are gonna default again. Ain't like it's the first time it's happened.

Greek default history

Spain is probably not too far behind. As to France... well the Germans may finally end up taking them over. They tried twice by military means and failed both times, now they will do it by financial means.

I really don't care what happens to those countries though. What worries me is what is gonna happen here. Shit is gonna hit the fan here sooner or later.
