Beware of sleazy "progressive" McActivism sweatshops that chew up young progressives...

I had a bad job experience. I lasted two weeks. Then I got fired. As did the vast majority of the people who worked there. If you're not a superstar at raking in contact information and donations, you don't make quota, and you're out.

The management calls themselves progressive, but they treat their employees like shit. And I'm ****ing pissed.

. . .

Most of us have seen these people - they're the folks with the clipboards who are accosting people at college campuses, busy town centers and going door-to-door trying to get donations or contact information from you.

In my case, the cause I was hired to canvass for was Fair Share Alliance.

. . .

Capitalism is based on self-interest and self-esteem; it holds integrity and trustworthiness as cardinal virtues and makes them pay off in the marketplace, thus demanding that men survive by means of virtue, not vices. It is this superlatively moral system that the welfare statists propose to improve upon by means of preventative law, snooping bureaucrats, and the chronic goad of fear.

42. I think you're a crybaby.

Those jobs DO suck and those bosses ARE dicks. You are absolutely right.
But
All the hand holding and hugging and handkerchief parties have to stop on the Left. If this truly is the turning of the tide in this country, if we are truly just months away from RE-electing Barack Obama right in front of a hundred million pissed off Republicans and their weird fringy RW cheerleaders then our grass roots people have to be able to suck it up.
It's not kindergarten forever and as much as I believe in nurturing people and being kind and forgiving I also know that in certain situations you have to be able to flip the switch and get busy. The other side does it. They may have perfected it in fact.
If you doubted that your efforts were going toward the causes for which they were indicated then you have a grievance.
If you're bitching because you didn't get to meet the Dahli Lama during your first week...not so much. It's called entry level and the wash outs either make another attempt with renewed vigor or they start moaning and filing lawsuits.
Bad mouthing fundraisers for progressive causes is just the type of ideological suicide that one would expect from a person so focused on themselves that they miss the big picture. You sre right to have self respect and to be indignant...but use the lesson to better yourself instead of as an excuse to bash a clunky system that raises money to fight for your causes on the national and global stage.

Dearest LittleCharlie, how dare you state the obvious at the island of misfit toys?    tsk tsk.

Considering that most vote tallies for POTUS end up around 50M, if there were truly 100M pissed off Republicans, you might as well pack it in now DUmmies.

Now that I think about it, after 3.5 years of O's policies, there might be 100M pissed off Republicans in this country...

For once in your life, you're right about something.

It's a rather interesting thread.  It's got 88 recs, which surprised the hell out of me.  Usually head-in-the-sand is the MO.

Exactly.  I think the One got 60 million votes last time.  I may not be great at math, but to me 100,000,000>60,000,000.

Sorry, Charlie, but if DUmmie assplatter were to achieve that kind of self awareness, he'd no longer be a DUmmie.
"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful."

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

Think about the demographics of most young 0bama supporters: white, privileged, not accustomed to working, not accustomed to taking orders, only comfortable when someone is praising them every minute over how special and wonderful they are. They join 0bama's squad because their cultural studies professor said it was racist NOT to join, and they were expecting the entire room to break into applause when news broke that they'd be helping the cause: "Oh, shit, you mean SKYLER is joining? That dude is AWESOME!" They were expecting free iPads, lattes, fist bumps, and soaring speeches from Lord Zero, who of course would visit them every week.

Sorry, DUmmy youth. Get used to it...you don't get access to 0bama until you start writing checks with five zeroes. Better start working on that killer iTunes app.
