Just when, exactly, did this country turn into a nuthouse?

Last edited Thu Mar 29, 2012, 01:43 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

I log on to DU after finishing my math homework and in seconds I'm reading stories about a teenager being shot dead by a vigilante while carrying nothing more menacing than a bag of Skittles and a bottle of iced tea; a college kid getting shot dead by the cops because some idiot called 911 and said there was somebody prowling around with a gun; and an older former Marine with a heart condition being shot dead in his own home when the cops show up and break down his door after he accidentally set off his MedicAlert pendant. What do these stories have in common? Cops (well, one wannabe cop) and the race of the victim. I don't even want to think about what the next jawdropping story will be.

2. I was going to say January 21st 1981 - Raygun's inauguration

They're nothing if not predictable.

However, we've got you by the proverbial/imaginary balls, DUchebags. The real time this country started going nuts was the date of Jimmy Carter's inauguration. One of the worst dates in history, because it really started exposing you roaches to the light reserved for decent, and civilized people.

So, then--January 20th, 1977?

Thanks for getting that date out there for me. Yup, we've got 'em beat by a good term at least, and it could go a bit further back.

The day someone realized they could simply vote themselves the wealth of other people is the day our country went nuts.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Just when, exactly, did this country turn into a nuthouse?...when DUmmies discovered they could vote themselves freebies from the public coffers.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I'd say with the birth of the drug-addled flower children or, to go to the root cause, the infiltration of communism into our society in the 60's.
NAMBLA is a left-wing organization.

Brigid needs to read this website, Chicago's Homicide Tracker:

http://homicides.redeyechicago.com/

What does Chicago and other big cities where crime is rampant have in common? regressive politicians?

I think Woodrow Wilson or at least Franklin Delano would be more appropriate! They started the welfare state!

I'd go with when Bush beat AlGore. The demokrat party went over the cliff in its hatred and insanity.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

January 22, 1973. Roe v. Wade.
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.
