Brigid (7,399 posts) Profile Journal Send DU Mail IgnoreJust when, exactly, did this country turn into a nuthouse?Last edited Thu Mar 29, 2012, 01:43 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I log on to DU after finishing my math homework and in seconds I'm reading stories about a teenager being shot dead by a vigilante while carrying nothing more menacing than a bag of Skittles and a bottle of iced tea; a college kid getting shot dead by the cops because some idiot called 911 and said there was somebody prowling around with a gun; and an older former Marine with a heart condition being shot dead in his own home when the cops show up and break down his door after he accidentally set off his MedicAlert pendant. What do these stories have in common? Cops (well, one wannabe cop) and the race of the victim. There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson.
