I just started working at a Waffle House as a server. It's been 20 years since I've last been a waitress. It's the only work I can find right now, so I'm one of the grossly underemployed. I have noticed that alot of it is in the server's attitude. I've been the only server in the store with every booth filled. As long as I acknowledge the people are there and wait on them with a smile (instead of acting like they are messing up my night) I always get a good tip...no matter how long they have to wait for their food. I've been pleasantly surprised at the good tips I get there. Of course, I'm still making 10.00 per hour less than I was; but it's better than nothing. The only people that don't tip are teenagers....I've come to not even expect one when I wait on them; but I still treat them as well as anyone else.
