4 to 5 bucks for gas coming!?

At least that is what I seem to be reading. Like many, many Americans I am struggling to survive in this jobless "recovery". An electric car is not in my near future, I bought the best old beater I could get for my money.

Does anybody remember, in 2008 as we neared the election, the exact same thing happened with gas prices?

And this year you can bet your ass they willl blame Obama and use this as a campaign issue.

It is simply the invisible hand of the 1% trying to rig the election via blackmail. And the rethug controlled house will make sure no investigative committes are formed.

I can already hear some on here talking about how this will be a good thing for pushing the clean energy agenda. They would not be so happy if they were working two jobs and paying most of the income from the second job every week for gas to get to work.

I hope Obama opens the gates of the strategic oil reserve wide and stops the oiligarchs from destroying the economic recovery with rising fuel prices. Or starts throwing them in jail. Or even better, nationalizes the oil industry. (Hey, I can dream, can't I?)

Oh my again.

The primitives were blaming George Bush last time.

And so I'm blaming the Magic One this time.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Suck on it, primitives.

1. The ecomomy seems to be recovering so the 1% who own the oil companies are trying to kill it

Can't have a good economy going into an election where a Democratic President is running for Re-election. A black Democrat at that.

Yawn.

"Racism" doesn't work any more.  Find a better argument.

9. In this case its not so much a Democrat as it is a black man doing a white mans job and doing a hell of a job at it too. Yes this is racism in its purest form, nothing more nothing less.

Yawn again.

2. It's almost $3.80 here so I'd believe it.

Every time I go by the gas station I get tense again. And I don't drive far and can conserve my gas. Increased gas prices are certainly not good for the recovery that's for sure.

3. At some point it's as inevitable as the sunrise..

Gas *will* be $4 a gallon and then $5 a gallon and so on, it's only a matter of time.

10. I remember 15 cents a gallon.

Gas wars were between competing gas stations on opposite corners and they filled you up, washed your windows and checked your oil. Ah, those were the good old days. No, at 5 bucks and I am on my old Beach Cruiser. I just hope Beer does not skyrocket.

4. A main reason why I am unemployed. When you have to decide on food and rent or gas to just look for a job, I tend to choose food and rent. All apps are filled out online.

5. We have passed Peak Oil

While gas prices are not explicitly tied to oil - they are somewhat. Prices always go up as the summer driving season approaches. I wouldn't necessarily blame it on the coming election and the Reptilians. Oil has been consistently near $100 a barrel for quite a while now.

I too am in a similar situation. I certainly can't afford an electric car but I would like to get a more fuel efficient vehicle than I have now. My old but fuel efficient Honda died this time last year so I'm driving a truck to work (which I didn't have to pay for because it was a family owned vehicle) and it sucks gas.

customerserviceguy (12,890 posts) Profile Journal Send DU Mail Ignore

6. Yes, that's what I see, too

In Northeastern NJ (where I work and buy my gas) it's already up past $3.50 a gallon in the middle of February. I figure by Memorial Day, it will be well past four bucks a gallon, and of course, way higher in NY, where gasoline is heavily taxed.

Is it the 1%? I think tensions with Iran are the more likely problem. Also, for the last few years, the jobless 'recovery' has kept down demand. It was inevitable that once the economy really picked up that we'd have higher fuel prices.

Is this primitive a neighbor of yours and the brain-damaged primitive, Ballygrl?

8. Actually, gas prices plummeted leading up to the election in 2008.

Average gas prices dropped from $4.11 in july to $1.72 on nov 3, ending the year at $1.61. Of course, the other party was in charge back then (didn't seem to help them though).

12. Price of oil (and therefore gasoline) isn't going up because of the election

IMHO it's going up because noises are being made about the oil companies are having to use their own money to secure their own oil fields in the middle east now that we have started pulling out our soldiers.

We either get $5 gas or Billions spent on war. Because the people at the top of the oil world are ****ing ****s.

Why does the price of gas concern DUmmies who never leave Mom's basement?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Hey, the first thing Nancy P. and her most ethical democrat controlled house did in 2007 was cut us off from Canadian Sand Slope oil...and we import almost 1/2 (9 million barrels a day) of our oil from them anyway.

When gas prices are high and democrats are in charge it is the republicans fault.

When gas prices are low and the republicans are in charge it is the democrats fault.

Sounds a lot like the global warming argument of circular reasoning.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Too late.

For the DUmmies that don't blame Obama for high gas prices.  The president can have a big effect on gas prices.

 July 14, 2008 . Average gas price : $4.11.

July 14, 2008 -President George W. Bush lifts the Executive ban on OCS leasing.

July 30, 2008 -President George W. Bush announces the beginning of a new “five-year plan” to provide a blueprint for OCS leasing in the 2010 to 2015 period. This would replace the five-year plan for the 2007-2012 period, which did not provide for any lease sales in areas that were covered by the moratorium.

 Average gas prices--August 18, 2008: $3.74.

Hey, you idiotic DUmpmonkeys started this thread when you were sure Bush was responsible for gas prices. Now you're saying Obama ISN'T? He SAID energy prices had to increase. He SAID that if you don't like your fuel efficiency, you should get a new car.

So go buy a new car. Obama (who saved the auto industry) will be happy to sell you a new Volt. Just take $40,000 to a Govt Motors dealer and they'll set you right up.

This is as much Obamas fault as it is the fault of his party and It's enablers. You know the enviromentilist that don't want mother earth used in any form.they have sole responsibility for how little gas and oil we have access to here in America. We can't even get a nuclear power plant going without lawsuits and handwringing about how dangerous it is but the French sure as hell can.

Pfft. Ill show you why gas dropped approaching the 2008 elections, and then why it has been increasing. Remember 'speculators' ? You used to hate them at the DUmp around 2008, because they buy and sell commodities based upon what their pencil pushers believe the future will bring.

At one time, this was the likely future.

Drill baby, Drill !

Increased domestic energy production results in lower costs. - But you hated that, didn't you ? You DUmpster divers felt that a rapid increase in energy production costs would result in massive interest and development in alternative energy sources, resulting in a 'green' future -- so , you all backed this guy instead.

If somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It's just that it will bankrupt them

You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.

Now - you halfwits aren't intelligent enough to go into stock speculation - But I feel even the wisest members of DU can understand what is going on here - It has nothing to do with getting 'The black guy' out of office - It has everything to do with investing money and interests according to the policies that the current administration is pursuing. Obama has thwarted US energy production at every opportunity, and has increased the costs involved for existing producers - what did you expect the result is going to be ?

Obama told you idiots...  read the quotes beneath the picture of dear leader above.
