Since the "get drunk, get stoned, screw, rape, destroy things, be more filthy than a hog in slop, scan money and display lunacy for the normal world to see" fest (aka the Occupy Movement) began I've been watching DU's reaction. It's been entertaining, but it's also been revealing. I think one of the more interesting things that have come from this is DU is their Myna bird syndrome. For those of you may not know what a Myna bird is I have clipped the below from wikipedia.
The Common Hill Myna is often detected by its loud shrill descending whistles followed by other calls. It is most vocal at dawn and dusk when it is found in small groups in forest clearings high in the canopy.[1]
Both sexes can produce an extraordinarily wide range of loud calls – whistles, wails, screeches, and gurgles, sometimes melodious and often very human-like in quality. Each individual has a repertoire between 3 and 13 such call types, which may be shared with some near neighbours of the same sex, being learned when young. There is a very rapid change of dialect with distance, such that birds living more than 15 km apart have no call-types in common with one another.[1]
Unlike some other birds, such as the Greater Racket-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus paradiseus), the Common Hill Mynas do not imitate other birds in the wild, although it is a widely held misconception that they do. On the other hand, in captivity, they are among the most renowned mimics, perhaps on par only with the African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus). They can learn to reproduce many everyday sounds, particularly the human voice, and even whistled tunes, with astonishing accuracy and clarity.[3]
Let's look at some similarities between the Minahs and the DUmmies:
1. Both can produce … whistles, wails, screeches, and gurgles, sometimes melodious (blink, blink, blink, blink) and often very humanlike in quality.
2. The really have a sort of small repertoire of call types: between 3 and 13.
3. The like to "share" with some near neighbors of the same sex,
4. The are among the most renowned mimics,
I do want to say that even though they both like to "share" with some near neighbors that there is at least a one letter difference. The Mynahs want to share calls. The DUmmies want to share balls.
With that out of the way I want to admit that the thing that intrigues me most is number 4. Think of how many times throughout the years since the DU comedy troupe first appeared on the scene that they have latched onto a word or phrase and rode that word or phrase like an escaped convict taking viagra on a $20-for-anything hooker.
Do you remember these few blasts from the past? "No war for oil", "Bush lied ______ died", "speak truth to power" . As the mimic powers of DU are strong there are others that are not included. The latest thing that the Minays…I mean DUmmies…are mimicking is "99%er". I would be surprised if a day goes by that "99%er" is not mentioned at DU. They really like proclaiming themselves to be 99%ers.
As the real 99% of the country probably loathes the lunatics at the DUmp and the 53% who are working to pay taxes to support the lunatics at the DUmp surely loathes them, it may be better for DUers to come up with another name. The name would need to be honest. I know DUers are against honesty, but in this case I just think they should make an exception. Out of politeness I've included a few names that they maybe should consider.
