So I see that once again Obama bows to The Family and attends the National Prayer Breakfast
For those of you who don't know, The Family is a fundamentalist religious group that converts and controls politicians in order to control the levers of power in DC. There are excellent exposes of The Family, the best being Jeff Sharlet's "The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power."

Each year, The Family puts on The National Prayer Breakfast. Part public piousness, part homage, politicians of all stripes are compelled to attend, because they either seek, or fear the power that The Family controls.

Sad to see our President bending knee at this event once again. A shame that he doesn't have the courage to reject them for the theocratic organization that they are.

Get a life loser.

2. Yet, he used the event to gently smack down all of the GOP

and their stance against helping people. He talked about how his faith in christ was one that states that all those that need help, should get it. It was well-played politically. OTH, I agree, this should not be a function that any politician attends...nor should it be a function that takes place.

57. Why does Jesus figure into this equation?

Why, by simply making these pilgrimages to this venue, does Obama bring on to the stage Jesus' teachings in regards to his own message? This is a secular nation, at least nominally, and by continuing to pander and play politics, even if it is just tacitly, with these people he simply continues to allow the further insinuation of religion into our body politic.

Don't you think that we suffer from too much of that already?

11. What's your problem? A president represents all We the People, not just those who voted for her/him.

Last edited Thu Feb 2, 2012, 07:53 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

Just because a president attends this or that function in no way means she/he accepts the dogma or other rhetoric that group represents.

How can anyone expect a government to function when a few per cent on several divisive political issues are so bitterly and irrevocably polarized?

Is there is no compromise possible?

If We the People can not find some way to survive those pockets of pure hatred that threaten the very foundation of Democracy, can there ever be any hope for a peaceful world?

18. So breaking bread with theocrats,

At an event sponsored by theocrats is OK now? We should somehow compromise with theocrats?

One doesn't compromise with evil, and that is exactly what the theocrats at The Family are. Don't believe me, do your research.

64. Sorry, but that is the equivalnce falacy.

Not everything is actually equal or true.

People who are organized, powerful and dedicated to making our government run on conservative Christian principles actually are a threat to this country. People who simply want to promote civil or fair labor rights for all aren't. After all, how does promoting civil or fair labor rights for all change anything in the government?

Theocratic rule, of any sort, has never worked well, but rather brought mass suffering and pain. We see that in Iran and elsewhere today, so why would it work well here?

Hard to believe the depths of idiocy these folks wallow in.

One time, just ONE FREAKING TIME, I'd love to hear Obama give a talk, speech, etc., that didn't involve politics.

And yeah, I know--never happen.  And to think, the most controversial moment up to that point at the NPB was Reagan labeling the Soviet Union the "Evil Empire".

There's a certain posting style that the DUmmies use that is really grating on me.  It's starting a post with "So," and ending with a question mark.  As in:

I don't know, I'd think they'd be quite happy considering how 0bama mangled Jesus' ministry. Who knew the Lord wanted a half Arab-Kenyan/half white guy to become president of the US just so he could tax all the rich people thus enriching the coffers of 0bamaCeaser who can then give benevolently to those who will work hardest for his reelection. Yes that would violate their separation stance, but then again they want higher taxes so if Jesus really was for the government taking money from people and giving it to the poor they would overlook it.

Like always they have no clue what Jesus really taught, he never once said that anyone anywhere had to do anything by force, he wants people to willingly reach in their own pockets and help out their fellow man, not reach into their neighbor's pocket and hand out his cash.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

"MadHound" is officially psychotic (Let me guess: He is also a 9/11 troofer, and believes in chemtrails), and though I know it's quite early, I'd say his remarks on that thread alone should be enough to earn him consideration for one of the Top DUmmies of 2012.

"This is a secular nation, at least nominally, and by continuing to pander and play politics, even if it is just tacitly, with these people he simply continues to allow the further insinuation of religion into our body politic."
1. No, it is not a secular nation. While we allow for freedom of religion, our nation is at its root a Christian nation, founded on Christian principles.
2. There is nothing in the Constitution against "Insinuating" faith into aspects of politics. What the Establishment Clause (Which idiotic, anti- Christian liberals such as MadHound mistakenly believe calls for "separation of church and state") says is that the government is not allowed to establish an official state religion (i.e. the Church of England) that people are forced to follow. The National Prayer Breakfast and other such functions do not violate that in any way.

"Theocratic rule, of any sort, has never worked well, but rather brought mass suffering and pain. We see that in Iran and elsewhere today, so why would it work well here? "

1. We on the right have made the same point regarding Communism and Socialism many times in the past, yet left- wing idiots like the DUmmies still feel that if it were adopted and practiced in America today, it'll somehow turn out differently than it has in any of the countless other nations which have been turned into nightmarish dictatorships through adopting Communism.
2. Iran and other theocracies are Islamic, not Christian. Christianity, unlike Islam, has evolved enough over the centuries that it has easily adapted to modern society, and thus if America were to somehow turn into a Christian theocracy just because a president attended a National prayer Breakfast, it would not cause anywhere near the kind of suffering seen in today's Islamic theocracies, if any suffering at all.
