Guess I owe some here an apology

It has been brought to my attention that some folks here on DU (myself being one of them) are posting vanities and news stories because we are desperately needing attention.

I did not mean to do so. I joined here in 2004 and found a community of people I could talk to and discuss everything from politics to my life. I felt it was a safe place to talk openly not just about our own personal lives but also politics.

My home was general discussion. I posted about me and my life, we posted about Andy and Khephra, etc. We could post one thread about bush and his lies and then post another about personal things. And the community that was DU would respond. We stuck together, we were friends - even if we did not always agree with one another over some things.

I could post about my life and problems, as could others, and we talked it out.

I and others were not looking for attention, we were looking for friends to discuss our issues with. We had needs and together we discussed them and lifted up each other. At least I thought that is what was going on.

One recent post has caused me to question it all, and make me think that perhaps I was wrong all these years. Maybe I was just being a jerk all of these years.

I just scroll past the vanity nonsense and sensational news some use to get desperately needed attention. But since the topic came up I shared my view. I'm sure it stings but you have probably noticed others hold the same opinion.

Vanity nonsense. From the same poster who is defining that: "My wife attempted suicide" or "My wife left me"? Do you know anyone hanging around political sites looking to read subject matter like that?

I guess that defines me and my posts here. I didn't just think of DU all of these years as simply a site about politics but about actual people and their problems. And maybe I have misused my posting privileges here to talk to you all about my life and problems. I opened up when I was most vulnerable because I needed to talk.

Perhaps DU is just about politics and the most recent legislation - and I have posted about such things many times. It seems though that the threads that get the most replies deal not with such things, but instead are related to each other. Me and you, talking about us and our problems - real people going through real problems and helping one another deal with things.

Right now my life is a mess - and where before I felt safe posting about it I no longer do. Before I did not worry about a term of service or whether or not I was posting to the right place, I didn't worry whether a jury would lock a post, I just posted and got replies from friends who lifted me up and listened.

Friends I had gotten to know here, spent time with in threads, it was me and you. A community. Friends caring about friends and all the while we could also discuss politics. We built DU by contributing not just money but posts.

Guess I owe you all an apology. I won't burden folks with my life and vanities anymore. I'll stick with just posting 'real news' and that whole community aspect, the DU I knew, I'll just ignore. The DU I knew and loved is gone - it is about politics only, and not about the members here.

Nadin needs to take lessons. This is a non-apology that almost works.

It scolds DU for not being what he personally envisions. SS elevates his personal piety. And he will garner far more sympathy that Nadins crappy non-apology.
