Got Into An Argument With My Right WInger Brother on Christmas Eve
SO I called my brother to last night just to talk. I knew he'd be calling my Mother later in the day on Christmas and thought I'd call and see what his schedule was like and so on. We have a rule. Because we disagree on politics so much, politics never comes up. Although, there are times where he just can not resist and he does so anyway and the conversation ends up in a screaming match with one of us hanging up on the other.

First thing he brought up when I called yesterday was the now famous video of the Fed Ex Guy throwing the monitor over the fence. I mentioned the fact that last I had heard the guy had not actually been fired from FED EX. My brother said this:

'Of course not. He is a Union member and companies are terrified to terminate employment if you are in a union. He won't be fired he won't even be punished for what he did'.

Now, one of our fights was back in March when My brother praised Scott Walker and trashed all the unions. He said to me how much he admired Walker for doing something so brave and that he was the grown up in the room. I laughed and told him he was full of it and asked where he got his information from. He ignored me and went on to say, 'I bet the union even told the guy to be fast so you can get your work done and throw boxes and items over fences'. He said he bets there are numerous examples of workers like this guy. He then went on to speculate what his union boss told them in a meeting. This is where I cut him off.

In previous political debates this is what my brother LOVES to do. SPECULATE. No proof. No evidence any of what he is saying actually happened, but he swears it's the real deal. I called him out and asked him how he knew what this guy's boss said and said don't say another lie until he can back this up. He got angry, called me a stupid liberal, and continued yelling. He was very angry, his voice shakey, and I kept trying to change the subject. He kept on speculating and then started saying things about Unions (I have no idea where some of this came from. He was bringing up stuff off topic and I had no idea where he was going with this) I interrupted and said not one thing he has mentioned could be proven and reminded him that he knew it. He screamed something at me and said we're done and hung up.

Every time we talk he tries to sneak politics into the conversation somehow. He'll call my Mom today and not sure if I should even talk to him. My Mom is a HUGE Obama supporter and an ex-Republican. She trashes the GOP all the time and he knows this(he accused me of brainwashing my Mom) So politics really never comes up with them. Anyway, I just had to vent.

Oh, and one last thing. My brother is a teacher. I assume he is in the teacher's union. So, after hearing his views on unions I am guessing he hates all the rights and protections he has. Ironic, huh?

Yeah,sure.  ::)

Gets 1 point for the "SO" but no conversion or cheering crowd.

Switch the roles and I completely believe the story.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Thank you for highlighting a bit of this screed, Carl.  It did need the footnotes as it's about the most damn boring bouncy I've ever tried to slog through. :yawn:

Well, one must assume nadin is an expert in slugs as much as in any other topic. ::)

Hey DUmmy, not all teachers are in a union.  The former Mrs. Wiggum has been teaching in private schools for nearly 20 years and has never been in a union.

Get your facts straight before you try to spin an elongated Christmas bouncy. :bird:

Can you say Charter Schools without madfloridian throwing a hissy fit?
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Either that or the brother was just pushing her buttons to get her off the phone.  If I had a moonbat sister, that is what I would do.  :-)
