Poll: How vile are Ayn Rand's socio-economic ideas ?
The scale is, zero being totally harmless to Nazism being a 100.

Based on my limited knowledge, I'd give them a 90.

OK. Rand doesn't threaten me but I'm no Randroid either. I've seen some and they give me the creeps worse than naked ptarmigan pics.

BUT...

No matter what you think of their methods, the Nazis believed they were acting out of a sense of altruism and compassion for the German nation and humanity when they murdered 12,000,000 people. In Objectivist ideology altruism doesn't exist, so a Randian would argue that this makes such atrocities impossible. A rational person understands that a nation might murder millions, once it convinces it's people that it's necessary. A nation needs a reason to commit mass murder. An individual without compassion can do the same on a whim, for nothing more than their own self-aggrandizement.

Objectivism is a political philosophy for sociopaths. The claim that it's a solution to our economic problems is like saying that getting liver cancer is a good way to lose weight.

So the National Socialists murder millions and cause the deaths of tens of millions more in the name of altruism and compassion.

Liberalism says its every action is one of altruism and compassion so we need an all-powerful, unrestrained, unchecked government to affect this charity.

But Rand, who would gut the government and its power to the barest minimum under the idea that people should be left alone to fend for themselves is the greater threat.

The Nazis were bad but are not even in the same league as the communists of the USSR and China.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

To me, all that means is that Objectivists, Nazis, Communists, revolutionaries, monarchists, small-d-democrats, oligarchs etc. are all capable of coming up with equally undesirable outcomes, just depending on who is calling the shots.

The Nazis were bad but are not even in the same league as the communists of the USSR and China.

[/quote] No matter what you think of their methods, the Nazis believed they were acting out of a sense of altruism and compassion for the German nation and humanity when they murdered 12,000,000 people.

I object to this statement, the people of germany were starving, the money they made was worthless.   Who to blame, not the government, had to put the blame on others.

Altruism had no part of this, the Jews saved their money worked hard for it and the government needed to get to their money.    The government needed to cause jealousy of the Jews, make their citizens feel the neighbor next door was causing them pain, not the government.  Encouraged the people to break into homes and business of Jews.

Those that worked hard for a good living and had more then their neighbors, if they were Jewish became a target to the poor and hungry. Soon it became the Catholics, the Gypsies and Gays.

To keep the people from turning on the government, a scape goat had to be found.   Why not the Jews, they had different tradition from the average Germen and had more money then their neighbors as they were thrifty.

It didn't take long for the Government to turn people on those that had more money they they did, it was not the Governments fault that the people were hungry, blame it on the Jews, the Gypsies and Gays.     KILL THEM ALL.

So it began, within weeks not months the Germans marched in and over took half or more of Europe.  Check out maps of the time that the Germans spread out all over, at the time the depression had spread through out Europe and people needed a reason for it outside of it was the governments fault.

It eased the peoples conscious to believe their neighbors and past friends were Evil, turn them in for  few bucks.

Many would not go along and risked death to hide the Jews, History's lost hero's.

Watch today as the government trys to blame the wealthy for the problems the government put in place.   The wealthy did not make the laws the government had to make them wealthy, they just followed the laws.

The people that complain about the wall street are at the wrong place, they need to be in Washington to find out who allowed the things they complain about to occur.-----All of them will take a tax right off if they can, but complain when anyone else does.

These people are at the wrong place to vent their problems. They need to go to the source of their problems and not blame people that followed the law. Darn do they blame a parent who owns a company for registering a Yacht to their company ??  Not as long as they and friends have use of it.

Well, vesta, with your understanding of interwar-period history, all I can say is that you appear to be fully-qualified to be a writer for the History Channel or the Military Channel.

Sounds familiar, very familiar. What party and it's leaders are doing that now?  Hmmm, just on the tip of my tongue......

Agreed.  And Vesta's post literally gave me the chills.  The seeds have been planted by the OWSers and Obama and his merry band of Marists water the seeds regularly.
