Horseshit. She's stated numerous times that she is over 60. Regardless of her work history, she would be getting SSI or SSDI and Medicare or Medicaid. Honestly? Call me heartless, but I never believed her story. How many homeless people are able to post from the public library at 3:30 in the morning when it closes at 9PM? Her story just didn't add up. She scolded everyone all the time about not caring enough about the poor. As if we couldn't care about more than one thing at a time. She attacked Will's mom and his reaction caused him to get banned. Did he overreact? Probably. But he probably smelled the bullshit all the way in Massachusetts.

There was no saying the right things, Jean. I offered her help over and over and over. Hell, I offered her a room in my HOUSE as well as a way to get here. Her story never added up. If you were living in a car or homeless in CO in the winter and someone offered you a place to stay, wouldn't you take it? There was enough posted on DU for her to know that I wasn't a threat; that I was who I said I was. Hell, at that point, Skinner would have vouched for me. He and I had spoken on the phone several times. He had called me asking for some assistance on something which I stated I would never reveal the details of.

There was a lot wrong with bobbolink's story but the relentless posts on the plight of the homeless were a good thing for DU. OTOH, the weirdly off the mark attacks on DUers who didn't agree with every word in bobbolink's posts aren't missed.

This. Just like when I read the DUmmies saying they are HIV positive and can't afford their meds. HIV, like most terminal illnesses, gets you fast tracked onto the SSDI and Medicare roles.

Do they really just drop people from SSI for anything other than fraud?  It seems to me that once you're in that system, you're there for good.

Actually that was Frank's originally. We all just use it now.
