The NASCAR appearance is billed as part of the first lady’s “Joining Forces” initiative for military families, and Mrs. Obama’s Joining Forces co-chair, “Second Lady” Dr. Jill Biden, will also serve as Grand Marshal.

I don't watch NASCAR but I am sure as hell gonna DVR that.

a)  Not going to woo anyone
b)  You can't burnish something that doesn't exist. 
c)  She'll be caught on camera with her Aunt Esther face on; which will be widely disseminated over the internet, cancelling out the whole effort.

That may work with the provincial rubes in blue states, but you're not going to convince many (if any) NASCAR fans that the Obamas are just "regular folks".

Why is she wearing the ear muffs?  I've never worn a pair at any NASCAR race I attended.  I'm sure the conversation on the radios are not interesting to her anyway.
