This is from politico:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/onmedia/1011/Soldiers_burn_OReilly_books.html

Just an FYI for the regressives out there who think conservatives just love everyone on Fox, I'm not a fan of O'Reilly, I'll watch his show once in awhile if he has someone or something interesting on, but he's a fence sitter who changes his tune and consistently makes it seem that conservatives and regressives are alike when we're not, he tries to kiss-up to the middle and it annoys the heck out of me. I also wasn't a fan at all of Glenn Beck. So you see, we don't love everyone who's on Fox contrary to what you believe.

Agreed......I find O"Reilly a pompus asshole, who sits on the fence to keep his ratings up......he has no real political position that is fixed, he's just interested in attracting both conservatives and liberals to his show, and the only manner in which to accomplish this is to never make either side look foolish.......it's a waste of bandwidth.

On the book issue, perhaps I'm a minority here, but don't you think that it's grossly arrogant to ship cases of ones own books to the troops in a war zone?  A few copies for major base libraries, perhaps, but boxes of them to a remote outpost?????  The only explanation is that they were unsold "overruns", and by shipping them to the troops he took a tax write-off.......

I'd have to agree with the soldier's comments, if you want to send something to such an area, please send something that they actually need.........I suspect with a staff like O'Reilly's, it wouldn't be that hard to find out what's appropriate.

Ah, but you're forgetting BOR's ego... with an ego like his, you determine that sending the troops your books is PRECISELY what they need...

Completely agree.  I really don't care if they burned the damn' things or not, if nobody wanted them, it's as good as any other solution.

Maybe someone else knows the answer, but I thought a few years ago with every book sold Bill sent a book to the troops? I know a certain percentage of everything sold gets donated somehow to the troops.

Perhaps.....however, I'd posit that a better way to support the troops would be to contribute a portion of his proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project, or a similar cause.

Logistically, shipping cases of books to a forward outpost wastes fuel, space, and manpower that can be used to provide them with essentials........I'm no expert on military matters, but my common sense tells me that this is just dumb......

I think it's silly to send a book, send them treats like candy, things that remind them of home, or necessities.

Which leads us back to BOR's ego... He thinks it's essential that troops have his wisdom on hand.

I'd like to see Bill O'Reilly go head-to-head-to-head with nadin and Olbermann in a personality contest.
