Orange County authorities were responding to a shooting at a salon in Seal Beach on Wednesday, with reports of seven potential victims. A source familiar with the investigation said six people were believed  dead.

The shooting occurred at Salon Meritage, a beauty salon in the 500 block of Pacific Coast Highway, workers in the shopping center said.

A suspect is in custody, according to a Seal Beach police official. The entire department is responding to the scene.

Considering this is a stone's throw from "da hood" in Long Beach, and beauty salons are actually pretty easy targets given they deal in lots of cash and little to no security, draw your own conclusions.

This is just 2 miles from the house. A big boating area, with some very pricey houses. I doubt this is gang related. It will be a husband shooting a cheating wife.

Starting to look more like your theory is correct.  But even so, the proximity of Seal Beach to the freeways (605 and 405 within stone's throw) and some of the crappier areas of Long Beach, nothing surprises me anymore.

NO place in So Cal is "safe".  None.

A recent update said that two more have died, and that the shooter's wife worked there.  The last part was unconfirmed.

An update I read today indicates that the shooting was over a custody battle. Divorced husband/father wound up with custody, but there were other issues. A judge ordered that they communicate only through email and texting with only a 10-minute phone call once per week dealing with the kid.

Divorced husband/father decided to take out the former wife, but it wasn't clear if she was among the dead. The salon's owner was killed.
